It seems to be saying that love is something that will always end in sorrow ("first it gets hot then cold in the end it hurts"), yet it is something we unavoidably yearn for. The metaphore of it being a wild beast is quite accurate, I think. Rammsteins' lyrics are always to deliciously bittersweet. ;)

This song is about love. In detail it's about a relationship: at first, you really want your partner then, you have a great time together after that, love expires and at last, it will end (your partner dies, or you leave him/her)

"Bitte bitte, gib mir Gift" - could 'Gift' be a reference to love itself? Everyone seeks it frantically but in the end it poisons us... how would it have sounded if it was "bitte bitte, gib mir Liebe"? Sound more plausible?
