Life After Death and Taxes Lyrics

Hey taxi

Take me straight to the heart of it
The nucleus of politics where somebody
Somebody started it
Cause they taxed me with a scalpel piece by piece
They cut me deep and bled me dry
Until there was nothing left to bleed

And this is how I choose to live
As if I'm jumping off a cliff
Knowing that you'll save me
Knowing that you'll save me
And after all the stupid things I did
There's nothing left there to forgive
Because you already forgave me
Yeah, you already forgave me

Just keep driving
Leave this defeat miles behind me
So far back I'd have to rack my mind to just remind me
I keep trying

To pick myself back up and then move on
And think about the life I'll have
When this fragile one is gone

And this is how I choose to live
As if I'm jumping off a cliff
Knowing that you'll save me
Knowing that you'll save me
And after all the stupid things I did
There's nothing left there to forgive
'Cause you already forgave me
Yeah, you already forgave me

Never forget
There's life after death

And taxes
And forgiveness comes

Then all of the rest
Is what passes away
Death and decay can't touch us now

Every breath that I inhale
Is followed by exhaling
Sure as the one who never fails
I know will never fail me

Never forget
There's life after death

And taxes
And forgiveness comes (forgiveness comes)
Then all of the rest
It just passes away

And this is how I choose to live (never forget)
As if I'm jumping off a cliff
Knowing that you'll save me (there's life after death)
Knowing that you'll save me
And after all the stupid things I did (and forgiveness comes)
There's nothing left there to forgive
'Cause you already forgave me (and all of the rest is what passes away)
Yeah, you already forgave me

Death and decay can't touch us now

Benjamin Frankllin said "But in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." in a letter to Jean Baptiste Le Roy. I think song is a play off of this.

i love the metaphor of faith feeling like "jumping off a cliff, knowing that you'll save me". i'm not very religous, but their music makes me want to experince that :)

this song is so hardcore. and dont just mean hardcore like kool or they scream a lot(altho it is kool and they do scream). imean that its hardcore christian punk. its very political, social, and religious, and it makes think. not what about the lyrics mean, u could understand what theissen is thinking most of the time(he is one of the best lyricists ever), but about life and stuff.

This has to be my favorite of their new cd so far. It is the clearest picture of how their music has evolved. It's just thinking about Heaven and how life shouldn't be worried about.

the lyrics are most certainly not dead on.

"Hey taxi, send me straight to the [heart of it] The nucleus of politics [where] somebody Somebody started it Cause they taxe me with a scapel piece by piece they cut me deep and [bled] me dry until there was nothing left to bleed "

"[As] if I'm jumping off a cliff"

"there's nothing left [there to] forgive"

"leave this [defeat] miles behind me so far back I'd have to [rack] my mind [to] just remind me [I keep trying] to pick myself [back] up and then move on "

"Every breath that I inhale is followed by exhaling [sure as] the one who never [fails] I know you'll never [fail] me"

I love the wordplay in their lyrics, like "taxi" and "tax me". And "rack my mind to just remind me"

What??
