M-m-m-mwah-ah

Did I catch you on a bad day?
You're so sour in the best w-w-w-way
I wanna waste my time on you
I chase tequila shots with champagne
The perfect fix for every heart b-b-b-break
So here's to nothing left to lose

(Oh-ohh) want you to let go
(Oh-ohh) and maybe get some
(Oh-ohh) why don't you lose control
And get emotional (yeah, yeah, yeah)

Give me a little taste
My lips, your face
My place or your place
Don't make me wait
Shut up and kiss me (m-m-m-mwah-ah)
Shut up and kiss me (m-m-m-mwah-ah)

There's something here I need to express
You're so cute when you're a hot m-m-m-mess
I wanna take a bite of you
I'm not trying to keep my head straight
I'm just trying to make a few mistakes
So let me make one out of you

(Oh-ohh) want you to let go
(Oh-ohh) I wanna get some
(Oh-ohh) I wanna lose control
And get emotional (yeah, yeah, yeah)

Give me a little taste
My lips, your face
My place or your place
Don't make me wait
Shut up and kiss me (m-m-m-mwah-ah)
Shut up and kiss me (m-m-m-mwah-ah)

Lemon peel, orange rind
Sweet and kinda bitter
On the rocks, I'm a Cat 5, full throttle twister
Lemon peel, orange rind
Sweet and kinda bitter
On the rocks, I'm a Cat 5, full throttle twister
Even on a bad day
Sour in the best way
(M-m-m-mwah-ah)
(M-m-m-mwah-ah)

Give me a little taste
My lips, your face
My place or your place
Don't make me wait

I think this song is about a girl who's trying too hard to make this guy like her so much that she's willing to change herself. It's a sad thing but you shouldn't have to change who you are to make someone love you. It should never be that hard. Finding someone who loves her for who you are is the better approach. The guy isn't even worth it really if he didn't really like her in the first place. I can relate to this song

It's about a girl who's in a relationship with someone who acts differently when he's alone with her and when there's other people around. He's sorta playing with her but she's still trying to make him love her. She wants to be able to quit him but she's just too much in love and she's willing to do anything. But eventually she realizes that she doesn't need to change anything about herself, and she's just upset that such a special time in her life is ending. But she stills wonders if she could've done something differently so he would love her.

I see some relation in this song to a gay couple - one person wants to be out and open about their relationship and the other is more hesitant, keeping it quiet and only something acknowledged when they're alone. The first verse especially sounds like it could be about this. The relationship is hidden from friends, and what they would say if they learned about it - coming out as gay is still social suicide in a lot of places. The 'who should I be' part of the chorus is all about how the singer would have to change to be able to go out in public with their boyfriend/girlfriend, how as they are, they're not someone that their boyfriend/girlfriend will take out in public and that the part about how 'this time in our lives will soon be in the past' is them realizing that they're not going to change and it's time to part ways.

It relates to both gay and straight audiences, but I just see some subtext towards it being about a gay couple. YMMV

    Song Meaning

I love this song! This song means that she was willing to change who she is just to have him. He's one of them boys who cares about his image, and what his friends think. She and him had like some kind of secret connection thing, going on like maybe one date, or they talked and now its like he never met her. He might shoot her a glance but other than that, he acts as if he never knew her at all. So she's willing to channge who she is, just to fit into his life. So she's asking "Who should I be to make you love me?" She telling him that if he really cares about her, and not his image, than "Kiss me fool."

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
