Nemesis Lyrics

Tonight is the night...
The empowering wind that draws breath from despise,
Roars 'neath my wings as I soar with the end in sight.

Choirs ignite...
A swansong for Leda,
Deathknells for Troy,
Tragedy blooms from one act-
I am Nemesis!

Poured in my arms,
When my daughter's eyelids closed,
I swore to slaughter those
Who stole my ray of moonlight.

So strike up the skies.
The diction of thunder,
God-given rites.
No fiction can deafen the fact-
I am Nemesis!

Cowled in utter grief,
I am the priest of a new disorder
Whose flag unfurled,
Bears a hatred for the western world.

There is no compromise,
No piped lament to stay the blind.
Just a shrike cacophony of war.

Ashes ember, fires rise,
No longer am I paralysed.
Now I drown in a loss worth fighting for.

Black is my heart,
I am Nemesis!

Tonight is the night...
The city sweats fever, the filth in her womb
Shifts like the season's unease at the hands of doom.

Restless inside
Her split underbelly,
Suitored with flies.
Marital bowels now contract-
I am Nemesis!

Poured in my arms,
When my daughter's eyelids closed,
I swore to slaughter those
Who stole my ray of moonlight.
Never again,
Our enemies entertained.
I toy at the clasp of her chain,
And remember the fight.

Cowled in utter grief,
I am the priest of a new disorder,
Whose flag unfurled
Bears a hatred for the western world.

There is no compromise,
No piped lament to stay the blind.
Just a shrike cacophony of war.

Ashes ember, fires rise,
No longer am I Palestined.
Now I drown in a loss worth fighting for.

Black is my heart,
I am Nemesis!

I think this song talks about a demon's daughter getting kidnapped by townspeople so he fliesout of Hell to the town and annihilates everyone and everything and he finds his daughter dead so he returns to Hell mourning.

But doesn't he mean he is being born? (Marital bowel's now contract)

That's the vibe that i got too. The hatred for the western world and all that seems like terrorism. No compromise,i drown in a loss worth fighting for. Yeah, i'd say it's modern day terrorism.Although Carpathian-Bred15's interpretation would explain alot.

No one is right here. Psh. This song is about flying green monkeys who come into your house and steal your cheese.

Cover art for Nemesis lyrics by Cradle of Filth

It seems too personal to be terrorism, but i can see where it comes from. terrorist think that they are fighting for good but Nemesis knows that he is the bad guy. i think the character of nemesis is the perfect trajic villain. The light in his life was taken from him and he lashes out at the world for his new damnation. this song is loaded with amazing and powerful images. the kind of song that sends chills down your spine...

Guess what everybody! You have to be careful now that you've mentioned the green monkeys! I saw them in my house last week, feasting on my cheese! One bit of advice, you can always buy new cheese, leave them alone! I tried to stop them, but they were way too strong. They're really smart too. They took me to their "lair" and PROBED ME!!! I felt so violated! BEWARE THE GREEN MONKEYS!

...

Nemesis in Greek mythology is the goddess of divine retribution and vengeance. Perhaps there's some correalation.

Exactly... Cradle of Filth songs are generally ballads... stories and this song seems to be telling the story of a man out to seek revenge over the death of his daughter.

I believe the song is about great loss and that it explains the emotions a Father would go through through the loss of his daughter.

(Tragedy blooms from one act- I am Nemesis!) This part of the song shows that through his loss he saught out the revenge that he deserves to inflict

(Poured in my arms, When my daughter's eyelids closed, I swore to slaughter those Who stole my ray of moonlight.) Here he sings of his daughter laying in his arms as she died and it is where he swears to get his revenge

(Ashes ember, fires rise, No longer am I paralysed. Now I drown in a loss worth fighting for.

Black is my heart, I am Nemesis!) Here he goes on as to the imense destruction he is inflicting against the world and that he does not regret fighting for his daughter and that there is nothing left of him now that he has lost his daughter. He has become the God of Hatred and Vengance(Nemesis)

(Cowled in utter grief, I am the priest of a new disorder, Whose flag unfurled Bears a hatred for the western world.) Finaly he explains that within his new army of hatred that through his grief he will push on towards his final battle agains his enemy

that is just what i get out of it all

P.S. About that whole Green Monkey bit..... GROW THE **** UP

This is easy. It's about the Greek goddess Nemesis. The Goddess of Vengeance, and her role in the Trojan War.

It's not about enemies, not about terroism (OMG DO YOU EVEN LISTEN TO CRADLE OF FILTH!!!) not about fathers losing there daughters (although Nemesis herself goes through an equivocal loss), it's about the Nemesis herself. It's a very common mistake to confuse the title of the song as to the anglicized, Nemesis meaning enemy.

It gives it away clearly with, A swansong for Leda (LEda was concieved by Zeus disquised as a swan), deathknell for troy. (Helen being Troys deathknell). Tragedy blossomed in one act (the Iliad), I am Nemesis. Nemesis plays a key role in the story.

They killed the song. This could have been a masterpecie. It's the same song repeated twice. But the ending is the best song ending I've ever heard. But this song should've been sliced in half or it should have used different riffs.
