New Grass Lyrics

Lifted up
Reflective in returning love you sing
Errant days filled me
Fed me illusion's gate
In temperate stream
Welled up within me
A hunger uncurbed by nature's calling
Seven sacraments to song
Versed in Christ
Should strength desert me
They'll come
They come

Lifted up
Reflected in returning love you sing
Heaven waits
Someday Christendom may come
Westward
Evening sun recedent
Set my resting vow
Hold in open heart

There's just nothing to say. It touches you in a place that doesn't talk.

I think it is about finding peace through his travels and is lifted up or feels he is in heaven while enjoying the streams, forests and the setting sun.

A very beautiful composition..love it.

My Opinion

"It's My Life" is pretty much the only Talk Talk song on here with any comments. Pretty sad turn of events, in the light of songs of this magnitude and sheer beauty.

Sounds like the redemption of a sinner.

this is my favorite song of all time. The lyrics transcend any mere notion of faith (organized faith that is) and there true impact is felt in pure human emotion free from reason; purely spiritual. This is coming from an atheist by the way.

My Interpretation

@Vaka your comment, 2 days from mark's death, is making me cry here at work.

Every time I revisit this album I can't help nominating it as perhaps the greatest of all time. In general, if you're reading the lyrics to this song on this website, you probably agree. At least that will be my assumption.

It's strange how oddly narrative and familiar these songs become, even with Mark Hollis speaking in tongues almost entirely throughout. Like consuming some great tragic novel through your auditory canal. Maybe this is what it felt like to follow Christ - lost in some grand, haunting mystery, esoteric yet personal. I believe Astral Weeks had some part in this effort, but both works seem to born of the same subtle energy this song captures (channels?) so well. I may sound like a crazy person at this point but we're never gonna survive unless

Beautiful.

luminescent. the title fits well. I don't find the song religious, being atheist, but it's still quite emotionally touching.

I think Mark was probably watching the grainy video of his wedding day or the flipping through the photo album when he got his insperation - set my resting vow hold in open heart.

It doesn't seem so much about finding god as it does finding comfort in the possibility that he might exist or the end might come someday.
