Every time I revisit this album I can't help nominating it as perhaps the greatest of all time. In general, if you're reading the lyrics to this song on this website, you probably agree. At least that will be my assumption.
It's strange how oddly narrative and familiar these songs become, even with Mark Hollis speaking in tongues almost entirely throughout. Like consuming some great tragic novel through your auditory canal. Maybe this is what it felt like to follow Christ - lost in some grand, haunting mystery, esoteric yet personal. I believe Astral Weeks had some part in this effort, but both works seem to born of the same subtle energy this song captures (channels?) so well.
