The Ha Ha Wall Lyrics
If you get tired of hanging around
Pick up a guitar and spin a web of sound
Then you could be strung out all day
With your lovers and clowns
But now I find myself still hanging around
It's been a long war and now I'm tired and dirty
Still not dirty enough for you my love
We've been thieving
We stole the light from the dawn
And if you come round on this ledge
You wish you'd never been born
Tell me can you hear me
Can you see through it all?
I'm empty lost and alone
Oh won't you heed my call?
So tired of hanging around
Pick up a guitar and spin a web of sound
It's been a long war, now we're tired and dirty
Still not dirty enough for you my love....
So tired - of just hanging around
Pick up a guitar and spin a web of sound
Then you could be strung out all day
With your lovers and clowns
But now I find myself still hanging around
Still not dirty enough for you my love
We stole the light from the dawn
And if you come round on this ledge
You wish you'd never been born
Tell me can you hear me
Can you see through it all?
I'm empty lost and alone
Oh won't you heed my call?
So tired of hanging around
Pick up a guitar and spin a web of sound
Still not dirty enough for you my love....
So tired - of just hanging around

It sounds like this song's simply telling people to make music. "Pick up a guitar and spin a web of sound". Also, though, it talks about the problems that music has brought them. He picks up a guitar because he's "tired of hanging around", but later in the song, it's "Now I find myself hanging around".
Basically, it's about how he started making music for music's sake, but got detracted, and ended up no better off than he started
Great song, lyrics are sort of wrong though I think, they're probably:
If you get tired of just hanging around Pick up a guitar and spin a web full of sound And then you could be strung out all day With your lovers and clowns But now I find myself hanging around
It's been a long war, we're tired and dirty Still not dirty enough for you my love
I've been thieving, I stole the light from the dawn But when I come round this'll let you wish you'd never been born Oh tell me you can see me? Oh can't you see through it all? I'm empty lost and alone oh won't you heed my call?
It's been a long war, we're so tired and dirty Still not dirty enough for you ohhh
Oh I'm so tired of hanging around Ohh pick up a guitar and spin a web full of sounds
So tired of hanging around Just hanging around Just hanging around
"its been a long war and im tired and dirty, still not dirty enough for you"
maybe that even though petes been through so much shit and he's had such a hard time, the newspaper and media etc just want him to get worse so they can have a better story. i love that line so much, i just think it sums up fame
Yeah ! the lei erikson version is the right
This is a wicked song!! I love the instrumental bit just after the line, 'Still not dirty enough for you ohhh' its brilliant!
very old libs song, before they were signed. wen they (first) played reading and carl or pete broke a string they played this song til carl/pete got another guitar eveb tho it wasnt on the setlist
I interpretted this as a messed up love song. Pete's singing about how he and his girl/boyfriend just sit around and get loaded all day, and Pete's wondering if this lover really cares about him ('Oh tell me you can see me, can't you see through it all?') or if they're just dragging him through the drugs and shit that they've done for the thrill of it.
This song is clearly about Pete's cycle of drug abuse. Basically he's saying he started playing the guitar as a creative outlet to escape the boredom of everyday life but when he became successful it led to drugs and he was back to "just hanging around".
It's a warning to whoever's willing to listen. He's saying that there's a person underneath the messed up drug addict who wants to escape but he can't because he's addicted.
This song's about Carl being a woman.
