Narcissist Lyrics
Professionally trendy in the glow of Clapham sun
There's life after work and it can be such fun
You see all the models in magazines and on the walls
You wanna be just like them
Cause they're so cool
They're just narcissists
Well wouldn't it be nice to be Dorian Gray?
Just for a day
They're just narcissists
Oh, what's so great to be Dorian Gray
Every day?
We're living in a looking glass
As the beauty of life goes by
You're going to be so oh
You're going to grow so old
Your skin so cold
Well they're just narcissists
Well wouldn't it be nice to be Dorian Gray
Just for a day?
Such narcissists
What's so great to be Dorian Gray
Every day?
They're just narcissists
Wouldn't it be great to be Dorian Gray?
Just for a day
Just for a day
There's life after work and it can be such fun
You see all the models in magazines and on the walls
You wanna be just like them
Cause they're so cool
Well wouldn't it be nice to be Dorian Gray?
Just for a day
They're just narcissists
Oh, what's so great to be Dorian Gray
Every day?
As the beauty of life goes by
You're going to be so oh
You're going to grow so old
Your skin so cold
Well wouldn't it be nice to be Dorian Gray
Just for a day?
Such narcissists
What's so great to be Dorian Gray
Every day?
Wouldn't it be great to be Dorian Gray?
Just for a day
Just for a day

It's just about beauty not being worth much, and if you care too much about it the ageing process will just devastate you. Also, it reminds me a lot of the Kinks, especially the first verse.
this one's based on the oscar wilde book...if you didn't know...first i thought that it was about how it would be so much easier just to be beautiful and have no worries but now i'm not so sure...what do you think?
yeah theres a futureheads song thats a cover of a personalities song caled "a picture of dorian gray" also aftre the oscar wilde book
bit of background on it... a narcissist is someone who's in love with themself..because...greek mythology...this guy looked in a pond and fell in love with his reflcetiin, he was called narcss-something...anywho he died of starvation coz he wouldnt lokk anywheere else...this bird vaished away coz she loved him...faded away until she only repeated his words...she was called echo :-)wow useless info :D
i like your info debzypip. i'd never heard the part about echo.
and dorian gray is an amazing book. a personal favourite. it's all about how youth and beauty are the only things that REALLY matter but it's also about how having that but having a corrupted soul sucked just as much as getting old. kindov something like that.
i actually haven't heard this song yet but i'm getting it now. the title attracted me and then the lyrics, so yeah, i'm commenting on a song i've never heard but i don't care. the lyrics look great.
its a classic song! Debzypip u no ur stuff! im impressed i just started reading 'a picture of dorian gray' purely coz of this song. its probably the campest book ever! no wonder the bloke had to go live in france!!
carl wrote this song when pete went to get a hair cut
You were really close. Narcissus was in love with himself, his weakness being that he stared at himself for long periods of time. One day, he caught sight of himself in the reflection off a pond. He sat by the pond looking at himself for the rest of his life. I really forget most of Echo's story, but she could only repeat words said to her, and therefore couldn't express her love for Narcissus. I'm pretty sure she went and lived in a cave after that. I learned this is Freshman English, and that was two years ago. Dayum.
Carl Barat and Oscar Wilde whodathunk it
Brilliant :o)
x
mmmm no, i would have though a combination of pete and wilde birthed this song, not barat....
