Can't Stand Me Now Lyrics
Its about Carl and Petes' friendship. Which has been going through some bad times.
"You shut me out and try to blame it on the brown".
Is a reference to Pete already having been kicked out the band once before his current absence due to his drug abuse. Brown is slang for heroin.
@Perfect Wh()re Well me being of the same world as Pete its a lonely world where you beg borrow and steal for your addiction and you will tell anyone anything you think they need to hear as long as it gets you that next bag of gear (H) it's a sad world that the person who is the addict cares first and foremost about themselves and feeding the addiction then 2nd is everything else. You end up continually hurting using abs abusing your loved ones and when your still using H you don't realise the pain you cause its only...

You ARE aware that both the Libertines' albums have been produced by Mick Jones, aren't you? If he thinks they're alright, I don't think that gives you much room to complain.
Musically, this is no more advanced than anything else the band has produced (although that's not to say that it's not bloody brilliant, and the harmonica at the end is a touch of genius) but the call and response vocal performances from Pete and Carl on this one took the band to a new level. "Have we enough to keep it together, or do we just keep on pretending, and hope our luck is never-ending?" I think we all knew the answer to that one. It was never going to last. Through the vocals you can almost feel the genuine love that existed between these two, but coming through equally clearly is the inevitability that things couldn't continue for much longer. By this point, we had already been on the rollercoaster with the boys for what seemed like a lifetime and we all knew it had to crash and burn. This writer is just thankful that the band produced such unbelievable demonstrations of their collective abilities (which have subsequently been shown to have been much more than the sum of their parts) on brilliant records such as this before it all went down
An ending fitting for the start You twist and tore our love apart Your light fingers threw the dark That shattered the lamp and into darkness cast us...
about the time pete broke into carls flat and basically carl saying pete is testing their friendship. the next verse is pete's reply. great song!!!
Really? Okay, maybe I was a little harsh then, but I still think they're a bit of a 2nd rate Clash. Better than most stuff you see on MTV anyway. So I apologize for the statement, but I stand by the feelings behind it.
this is like when my mate was on drugs, and it was so sad, because we tried to help, but the repetitive chorus here makes me realise that no matter what we said to her, she wasnt listening, it was all just "if you were a real mate, u'd let me get on with it".....she thought that by trying to help, we were actually bullying her, being bad people. she thought we hated her, when we loved her so much. she died last year, so to hear a british band have such an amzing song out really affected me.

too bad libertines disbanded =(
This song's about Carl being a woman.
The 'If you wanna try' verse seems so pleading to me. Who hasn't been addiction's bitch or had a friend in that situation?
Maybe that's still a bit too harsh. Basically, you can see their Clash influences, I just don't think they pull off the Clash-inspired stuff especially well.
here's a thought: how about you go fuck yourself? how about that? unless that's too harsh

yep too harsh. you might want to take your own advice and quit trolling.
