Breakaway Lyrics

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I'd just stare out my window

Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray

Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me

Wanting to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I'd pray
I could break away

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky
Now make a wish, take a chance, make a change
And break away

Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I love
I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change
And break away

Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean

Get on board a fast train
Travel on a jet plane
Far away
And break away

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky
Now make a wish, take a chance, make a change
And break away

Out of the darkness and into the sun
I won't forget all the ones that I love
I gotta take a risk, take a chance, make a change
And break away

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging round revolving doors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me but
Gotta keep moving on, moving on
Fly away
Break away

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
Gotta take a risk, take a chance, make a change
And break away

Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget the place I come from
I gotta take a risk, take a chance, make a change
And break away
Break away
Break away

I think the song is about changing your life for the better, it's about making changes that will allow you to live your life as happiest as possible. I'm going to try to find a general and relatable meaning behind the song rather than a literal and specific one.

Grew up in a small town - My take on this is that she grew up being a minority, there was something that made her life harder than most people. We can go as far as defining her as an underdog. Perhaps she was an introvert, shy, anything really, it's phrased to be as relatable as possible.

And when the rain would fall down I'd just stare out my window

The word rain implies sadness, the rain in the lyrics represents those moments when everything came crashing down. The verse "I'd just stare at her window" implicates that whenever she was faced with such moments she would just hope things would change, that deep down she wanted to make a change in her life but at the same time she lacked the initiative, she would just stare she wouldn't actually try to grab what was behind it.

Dreamin' of what could be And if I'd end up happy

This verse talks about her desires, she's imaging her life could potentially be, and at the same time she's wondering is she will ever be happy.

I would pray

There are many ways to interpret this, my take is that again she lacked initiative to change her life, "she'd pray" it implies hoping someone would change her life for her, she was just waiting for her life to change rather than taking the initiative herself.

Trying hard to reach out But when I tried to speak out Felt like no one could hear me Wanted to belong here But something felt so wrong here

I think this relates to the first verse of the song, it's about living as a minority and not being heard nor understood by people. It's about being alone and feeling different from other people. It implies she lived under other people's shadows that she's unhappy in general.

I'll spread my wings, and I'll learn how to fly I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky And I'll make a wish Take a chance Make a change And breakaway

I think the chorus is the most important part of the song, it's about finally taking initiative and changing your life for the better. She's going to "spread her wings and learn how to fly", she wants to be free from whatever is holding her back, she wants to grab all the endless possibilities that are ahead of her, she's making wish and actually trying to fulfill it. She will breakaway from whatever is holding her back.

Out of the darkness and into the sun But I won't forget all the ones that I love

Darkness represents all the negative stuff in her life and she's telling us that she will finally walk into a happier phase of her life, but that she refuses to leave behind the people she loves. I think she's mainly talking about her family, she's telling us that even if we decide to change our lives we shouldn't forget about the people helped us walk through it.

Want to feel the warm breeze Sleep under a palm tree Feel the rush of the ocean Get on board a fast train

All the situations she described are basically phsyical "dreamy" representations of happiness, this part of the song is about her expressing her strong desire to be happy.

Buildings with a hundred floors Swinging 'round revolvin' doors Maybe I don't know where they take me

This part of the song talks about the endless paths the changes in her life could take her, she's trying to be a bit more realistic and honestly tell us that she doesn't know what will happen from now on.

But gotta keep movin' on Movin' on Fly away Breakaway

She concludes by telling us that whatever happens, she will keep going on, and that regardless of what happens she will be find a way to be happy and fulfill her wishes.

This is truly an amazing and inspiring song, that basically everyone can relate to.

THIS SONG KICKS SOME SERIOUS ASS!!!!

I think this song is about letting yourself go. You have many stressful things in your life and you just need to let go. She says "Spread your wings and learn how to fly", meaning, to get away and find yourself. The bridge in this song is really important."Buildings with 100 floors, swinging around revolving doors, baby I don't know where they'll take me." This means that she needs to follow the path and go with the flow, and cant take any pressure anyone gives to her. The chorus is the most important because she knows that getting away from everything that brings darkness in her life is very hard, but she needs to spread her wings, and take a risk, because she needs to now. She won't forget about the ones she loves and bring happiness, but she needs to get away from everything for now. The second verse is important too because it talks about everything that will bring you happiness, and what you want to do and what you think is happiness.

Basically, this song is telling you to find yourself. When you feel like you are going to explode, just breakaway. Because it's a risk to just get away from everyone, and just fade away. That its okay to cry when you want to breakdown, that, it's okay. You need to get out of all the darkness in your life, and move away. Then when you're strong enough, you can comeback. You let the wind take you, and as the song says, Breakaway. You let fate do its job. As the chorus says, it's not easy to say goodbye, but you need to go, because it's better for you, to feel better. Therefore, you just to Breakaway and find yourself.

"Now make a wish, take a chance, make a change."

Even though she is too "POP" for me... this song is really cute.

there a few pop singers that i like and kelly clarkson is one of them. Hell ive listened to a range of music from classic metal like judas priest and led zepplin to stuff like slipknot and disturbed. but when it comes down to it i jus love her voice and how much energy she puts into her songs along with the deep down heart to heart lyrics. Im embarrased to say that i cried when i watched the music video for the song. This song is all about someone dreaming of the life way out there and how shes...

Apparently this was co-written by Avril Lavigne. now i dont like avril, cause she acts hardcore but sings pop, but i do like this song. and im a guy who can admit this. i am usually more into heavier or more acoustic stuff. This song just, sounds good comming from Kelly. i persoanally think that if avril were to have done this song, it would have sucked.

I don't care.. like I'm not a total fan of Kelly, or like any pop or whatever. But the lyrics are so heartfelt and real, atleast to me, so I just had to like the song, no matter if I'm not into this or what. It's a cute song.
