Give 'Em Hell Kid Lyrics
Oh baby here comes the sound!
I took a train outta New Orleans
And they shot me full of ephedrine
This is how we like to do it in the murder scene
Can we settle up the score?
If you were here
I'd never have a fear
So go on live your life
But I miss you more than I did yesterday
You're beautiful!
Well I'm a total wreck and almost every day
Like the firing squad or the mess you made
Well don't I look pretty walking down the street
In the best damn dress I own?
If you were here
I'd never have a fear
So go on live your life
But I miss you more than I did yesterday
You're so far away
So c'mon show me how
'Cause I mean this more than words can ever say
Some might say we are made from the sharpest things you say
We are young and we don't care (oh woah ow)
Your dreams and your hopeless hair (oh woah ow)
We never wanted it to be this way
For all our lives
Do you care at all?
If you were here
I'd never have a fear
So go on live your life
But I miss you more than I did yesterday
You're so far away
So c'mon show me how
'Cause I mean this more than words can ever say
(What'd you call me?)
(Well, there's no way I'm kissing that guy)
I took a train outta New Orleans
And they shot me full of ephedrine
This is how we like to do it in the murder scene
Can we settle up the score?
I'd never have a fear
So go on live your life
But I miss you more than I did yesterday
You're beautiful!
Like the firing squad or the mess you made
Well don't I look pretty walking down the street

I thought at the end he said 'What you told me...well there's no way I can forget that...'
I interpreted this, straight off, as being in love with somebody who has broken up with you, and being torn between wanting them to be happy - 'so go on live your life', but wanting them to be happy with you 'I miss you more than I did yesterday'.
Ephedrine. That's used to treat heart failure among other things.
Helena was is his dead grandma but her real name's elena. The albums dedicated to her and someone else. I think the albums concept is he want's to bring her back to life so much so,he'd kill a thousand men for this as a deal with the devil.
here's my interpretaion.....
"Oh baby here comes the sound! I took a train outta New Orleans and they shot me full of ephedrine."-This set's the scene.Maybe she was overdosed on ephedrine?
"This is how we like to do it in the murder scene. Can we settle up the score?"-Hence my overdoes theory.the doctor gave her too much and she died.Gerrars asking the devil this.he wants some kind of deal to bring her back .
"If you were here, I'd never have a fear. So go on live your life. But I miss you more than I did yesterday. (You're beautiful.) "-He get's the fact that everyone dies but he obviously wishes she didn't have to.He's saying this to her.
"Well I'm a total wreck and almost every day. Like the firing squad or the mess you made. Well don't I look pretty walking down the street. In the best damn dress I own?"-He's so stressed out by this. The mess is the deal-all the men he's killing. He's angry at her for all of what he's going through so he's taking the piss out of her in a moment of rage.
"If you were here, I'd never have a fear. So go on live your life. But I miss you more than I did yesterday. You’re so far away. So c’mon show me how. ‘Cause I mean this more than words can ever say."-he's sorry for getting angry and he's just trying to explain how he feels.
"We are, made from the sharpest things you’d say. We are young and we don't care. Your dreams and your hopeless hair. -the sharp things are his broken pieces. It hurt him when she said stuff about how awful the younger generation are when she got angry with him for something.perhaps she disaproved of his long hair?
"We never wanted it to be this way. For all our lives. Do you care at all?"-this is where i'm unsure.they might have had a row and he never got to appologise 'cos she died or this is him taking the piss again out of frustration.Does she get what he's going through?is it worth the effort?
The only thing i don't get is why gerrard said it's about teenage pregnancy andkids being the future. He might have wanted us all to think about the meaning or he felt vunerable with his emotions on show to millions.
This song is most definitely about teenage pregnancy.
"I took a train outta New Orleans and they shot me full of ephedrine. This is how we like to do it in the murder scene"
...... ephedrine is a drug used as a diet pill and bronchodilator and when it is taken in excess, it can kill a woman's baby. I'm guessing she either had an actual abortion, killed her baby on purpose with her drug, or definitely thought about it.
"If you were here, I'd never have a fear. So go on live your life. But I miss you more than I did yesterday."
..... basically, the guy left. She wants him to live his life normally, but she still misses him like hell.
"(you're beautiful!)"
..... she's remembering what the guy told her. He tells her she's beautiful, and it's probably an empty statement and she knows it, but she can't help but love and miss him.
"Well I'm a total wreck and almost every day. Like the firing squad or the mess you made."
...... she's saying that because she's pregnant, she's a total wreck like "the mess you [the guy she's talking to] made"- the mess is getting her knocked up.
"Well don't I look pretty walking down the street in the best damn dress I own?"
...... she's probably saying here that she can no longer fit in her best dresses, that she's so broke from the baby needing care that she can't afford a nice one, or that because she (a)either had an abortion or (b) killed her child with an overdose of ephedrine, so she still is thin and as pretty as she was before this whole mess.
"We are made from the sharpest things you say. We are young and we don't care. Your dreams and your hopeless hair. We never wanted it to be this way. For all our lives. Do you care at all?"
..... She's saying that they're both young and that if they had the baby, they would have to give up their dreams and their childish worries like "your hopeless hair." Neither of them wanted her to become pregnant. Now that the guy left, she's doubting he even cares.
Just wanted to add my theories.
Cheers! ~ just_another_cog (in the murder machine)
@just_another_cog ephedrine "While likely safe in pregnancy its use in this population is poorly studied"
@just_another_cog ephedrine "While likely safe in pregnancy its use in this population is poorly studied"
And the title? What does it refer to?
If we consider the "teen pregnancy" theory, we might agree with the one who's said the chorus is sung by the dead boy from his grave. The title might be referred to him: Give'em hell (to your parents), boy (the aborted one).
Just my opinion.
At the end of the song he yells sometihng along the lines of "Would you wanna call me? Cuz I'd never kiss that guy!!" sometihng like that but im not too sure.. aslo at the last show he said" this is a song about the day i was born.."
yup thats he says that, and a few other words after it but you can't really understand it.
fucking great song,
mmmm this song is the shiot.
ps..i can't believe there aren't any more comments on this song!
Pitchfork Red, when did you see them in concert? Most of what Gerard says when he's on stage shouldn't be taken literally. He was wasted for almost every show this summer on the Warped Tour. He's recently cleaned up. He likes to make shit up a lot too. LoL I love him for it.
Great song, great album.
