Maybe It's Just Me

I love this song along with all of Butch's new stuff. I think this song is about how he cares about someone so much that he's willing to be out of her life if it is what makes her happy. He would rather have her choose to keep him in her life, but he's willing to sacrifice his happiness for her.

sounds right ^. ITs beautiful, especially if you can identify with it. I'd say this is the secret best song on the CD.

this song is really beautiful! and I think I can identify myself with most of his songs, and maybe lot's of people do it and I think the meaning is easy to onderstand

oh my god this song is so beautiful. such selfless, open hearted lyrics. it really touches me.

Ths is definatley a heartfelt song of a relationship that slowly drifts apart. The one end of the relationship loves the other end to the extent of not being happy, if that makes the other person involved more free. At the same time, there is a hopeful and bittersweet optimism that time will bring them together once again. The relationship might have also involved conflicting egos, reflected in the lines

"It's not a contest of who'll try harder / Or who'll cross the finish line."

The song is basically saying, hey, we didn't work out this time around, and if you're not ready to take me for everything that I have to offer, then strike out on your own and blaze your own trail. I'll still be here for you in whatever way you want me to no matter what happens.

he cant live if she's not happy (ego), he leave leave if she cries, but he can't live without her IF IT MAKES HER SMILE. the guy isnt all that selfless, and he's making that clear.

So I started REALLY listening to this song as of lately. I've heard it plenty times before but unfortunately, I didn't listen to the lyrics as well as I should have. And now I did and it hits home.

And to me, it's not about egos. As much as it might be the right meaning. To me, this is about yes, being selfless.

"But I can live without you if it makes you smile." This part reminds me of the words "I want you to be happy even if it's not with me." So if she was to be happy without him then yes, he would do it for her.

i always liked this song.. it was in a soundtrack i had. it really is about the purity and unselfishness of love. he is letting this girl go because he knows she will be happier. i like the lines "So tell me what your plans are And tell me what you're doing The only thing I'll hold against me is a picture of you tonight" i guess he loves her but shes not happy. and hes doing the right thing even though it hurts.
