Joan moved away to Colorado
Said she found god and a boyfriend as well
One that won't hit her or make her feel shallow
There's a lot to learn about Joan

Before I moved in, Joan had a fling with the landlord so she got to live stay for free
I'm not a genius but I figured out
There's a lot to learn from Joan

And after all this time, you were waiting on the ride, to stop at the place where they slowly misplaced your life...go get it right

I went to the closet to get dressed for work
When I spotted a box I had not seen before
With a box of all kinds of letters that never got sent to a guy in Colorado since 1994,
And I know it's wrong but I sat and opened

In no certain order a letter or two
She talked about blisters and bruises of anger
And she bought a handgun to learn how to shoot,
And the last letter said that she had to get out

But I couldn't make out the rest of the note,
From the blood stains all over,
The page of the letters.
There's a lot to learn
And there's a lot I learned about Joan

And after all this time, you were waiting on the ride, to stop at the place where you slowly misplaced your life, oh and after all this time, you were waiting on the ride, to stop at the place where they slowly misplaced your life...go get it right

Go get it right,
Go get it right,
Go get it right.

General CommentI think the reason the letters were never sent is actually because of the landlord she was having an affair with. It would seem that he was very controlling, and because he was the landlord, he probably had a good idea and a reasonable handle of what mail entered and exited the building. He obviously found out that she was planning on leaving at some point, and he couldn't stand the thought that he had competition, even if it was thousands of miles away. At this point, one of two things happened. Either Joan was killed, or she committed suicide because he simply would not let her leave. I lean toward the latter.

The beginning of the song makes one believe that Joan moved away, but the I feel irony is developed until later on in the song when Butch sings the lines, "With all kind of letters that never got sent /
to a guy in Colorado since 1994." This makes me believe that Joan never moved away.

Also, due to the fact that this song tells a story more than anything, I don't really think it should be analyzed for any other meaning past the tale itself, although a case may be made to argue that the song stands for the immorality and desperation elements of the human spirit.

General CommentWhat the hell you guys!?! Seriously, leave a normal comment.
I think it's about a girl, who had a boyfriend that hit her. Then she moved to Colorado to be with a man she was having a long distance relationship with after she killed her abusive boyfriend. And Butch knew her because he lived in the same apartment as her. Something like that

General CommentLong distance relationship yes... but with the letters that never got sent... i dunno. I wonder why she never sent them. maybe because she saw herself eventally killing the abusive boy friend and didn't want her new BF in colorado to know about her past and just love her for who she is.

General CommentThis is seriously about Taraleeabby's Grandmother, Joan. He wrote it because he remembers his sister talking about her friend who's mom had killer herself...he just added a story to go along with it...
