So I started REALLY listening to this song as of lately. I've heard it plenty times before but unfortunately, I didn't listen to the lyrics as well as I should have. And now I did and it hits home.
And to me, it's not about egos. As much as it might be the right meaning. To me, this is about yes, being selfless.

This part reminds me of the words "I want you to be happy even if it's not with me." So if she was to be happy without him then yes, he would do it for her.
