I think Prince spent his entire life as a cuckold married or not. This song pretty much illustrates what his sexuality consisted of. I think he had a deep rooted insecurity about his height and his manhood. He basically was a sadomasochist. When you think about the song, he talks about a woman who is obviously sleeping around with his friends, not only that, he is also having threesomes with her, and another man. You can also interpret it as if he had a polyamorous relationship with her and the other guy. I don't think prince really saw himself as a man so that is why it doesn't surprise me if he would like threesomes with another man. I think the song is kind of sad because he doesn't think he is man enough for her so he accepts being the third wheel although it pains him to do so.
So I think Prince is singing from the perspective of a female roommate. She's in love with her and just going along with everything so she can keep her in her life. Sharing clothes and letting a guy sleep between the two of them. The roommate would've been between the two guys if it were flipped.
