I actually talk to Kevin in email semi-frequently. I asked him the meaning of this song and he basically said it's about feeling uncomfortable with yourself while simulataneously being uncomfortable in the presence of even your closest friends. The song describes a bar scene where he's drinking and trying to make everything be the way he would hope. There's a piano player do cover songs. Then eventually you get caught up in the music the cover guy is performing.
