Creek Mary's Blood Lyrics

[Singing in Lakotan]

Soon I will be here no more
You hear my tale through my blood
Through my people
And the eagle's cry
The [bear] within will never lay to rest

Wandering on [horizon road]
Following the trail of tears

White man came
Saw the blessed land
We cared, you took
You fought, we lost

Not the war but an unfair fight
Scenery's painted, beautiful in blood

Wandering on [horizon road]
Following the trail of tears
Once we were here
Where we have been since the world began, since time
Itself gave us this land

[Singing in Lakotan]

Our souls will join again the wild
Our home in peace [and war and death]

Wandering on [horizon road]
Following the trail of tears
Once we were here
Where we have been since the world began, since time
Itself gave us this land

Dragon:

Translation for the poem: (as some other lyrics not listed): our souls will join against the wild our home in peace'n war'n death

wandering on horizon road...

i still dream every night of them wolves, them mustangs, those endless prairies the restless winds over mountaintops the unspoilt frontier of my kith n'kin the hallowed land of the green spirit i still believe in every night in every day i am like the caribou and you like the wolves that make me stronger

we never owed you anything our only debt is one life for our mother

it was a good day to chant this song for her

our spirit was here long before you long before us and long will it be after your pride brings you to your end

it wasn't the americans who took the land intially; it was the europeans.

@Rockad1054 Of course, because americans are the native americans. How could they take their own land? All the "americans" in america are nothing but actually europeans born on that continent.

Makes me think of the American westward expansion, mostly how one-sided and ecumenical it was.

The Trail of Tears was a famous example of the suffering inflicted on Native Americans...sadly, it is not the only one.

The use of Lakotan is haunting...nothing offers more indemnification than the voice of your victim...

I think this song is about the Red Indians of America whose land was savagely taken from them by the greed of white people. As the songs says: White Man came, saw the blessed land, we cared, you took, you fought, we lost, not the war but an unfair fight, sceneries painted beautiful in blood. How sad :( It ends with: 'Our spirit was here long ago before you, long before us and long will it be after your pride brings you to your end.' The spirit of the indians will always be there, it will always be there land.

it is a very beautiful song, and a very sad one, and i agree that it is about the war between the indians and the white men, and it is unfair, because the indians didnt have weapons or trained men, and white men destroyed their habitat and them, too

Creek Mary's Blood is a book by Dee Brown about Native Americans.

I presume that the song refers to this but I'm not sure-I haven't actually read the book.

Its a very beautiful song-one of my favourites on that album.

It's about the Trail of Tears, ie how Martin Van Buren totally fucked over the Natives.
