I think this song is about being alone and not being able to get someone out of your head yet wanting them "fly away and leave it behind".

The first time I heard this song it reminded me of a particular situation...there's someone who wants to be with you really badly, and even though you have feelings for them you don't want to be together because you're with someone else who you love, but the other person won't leave you alone and deep down you don't want them to. But that's just what it reminds me of...

I think it's about someone who was abusive....

It sounds like he was abused and they came to take them away...the whole song follows this

These lyrics reminds me of a scenario where you have dated someone and either one of your feelings start to fade (especially when you weren't officially in a relationship, only 'seeing each other' so to speak). So it's easy to end it without having to actually announce it. Usually, especially if they remain friends, the one who didn’t end it has lingering feelings that don’t change or leave.

The part where one of them is not letting the other alone could work for either of the two people. In the case of the one whose feelings stopped, the other isn't respecting their decision and tries to change their mind.

"So fly away and leave it behind Return someday with red in your eyes"

Person-One (who decided to stop the ‘relationship’ for whatever their reasons) possibly just wants to forget that anything ever happened between the two of them, but briefly forgets/gives in ("I need you") only to remember why it did not work and why it will not work ("they're coming to take you away").

This could also work for the second person in the way that Person-One wanted to stay friends but will not leave Person-Two alone/can't make up their mind. Person-Two most likely still cares for Person-One, but knows that they have put them through a lot of shit. It truly wouldn’t be in Person-Two’s best interest to get involved with Person-Two again, despite a love they might have for them. They will only end up broken hearted.

In my case, I have connected this to ‘Away’ through the second scenario because it’s something I know well. I think either could be applied however? These are just my thoughts of course.

I love this song so much. Nobody else has put anything of the sort, but it really reminds me of a guy who has done something wrong or is in a really bad situation or is a wanted criminal or something similar and there's a girl who he loves, and she loves him too, but she loves him too much to leave him and he thinks she should go and not be affiliated with him in any way so she won't get as screwed up as him or get hurt.

He's basically saying that he made a huge mistake being with this girl and that she could stay as she is if she leaves him.

He wants her to cut off all her connections to him and be alert of any other troubles.

He could be done for at any moment, and he doesn't want her to pity or sympathize with him, and he thinks the first thing she could do to improve the situation is to go.

Again, he wants her to go, and if things go as planned but he does get screwed, she can avenge it eventually, she can "see red" i.e. get angry.

I'm gonna have to say this song is a bout a relationship...or rather the lack of one.

Cold and alone, he's away from her. Beside himself because there is no one else for him. He's blinded by this, so even God can't help him find the light. He should just drop it, leave it behind. He can't hide in his dreams, he probably dreams about her all the time. He sees her everywhere he looks. He remembers exactly how she sounds. He remembers exactly how it feel to touch her...he's losing her...so so losing her.

She must have hurt him, leaving him frail and dry. He could drop his hurt if only he could lie to himself. There's no point in crying. He's got to put his pain behind him and start to make it alright. He's got to fly away, leaving his anger behind. He's got to go back, with red in his eyes. Its not the red of anger...its the red of sorrow and loss and forgiveness and regret...he'll never forget how beautiful she is. He'll always know just how she sounds. He'll always remember how it feels just to touch her.

He's got to go get her. Fight for her...but how? I don't know how to fight for her...I've got to fight for her...

I think this is a song about someone who is in love with a girl but they got them involved in something bad. The guy loves her and struggles between wanting her to get away from it all and between wanting more of her. He doesn’t have the strength to completely end it with her so he tells her to leave it all behind and come back someday when she can rationally think about what they did. I think she followed him into his destructive behavior and didn’t exactly think it was that wrong. He’s aware that she can’t see the light and he wants her to find it. It’s tough love. He cares enough about her to realize what’s best for her.

He realizes it and hopes she can find God and save herself out of the mess he created) If you knew your way to the light (If she only knew what they did was wrong, she could see the light in the dark situation. He was blind, but he sees the error of his ways, only she’s still in the darkness of that situation) So fly away and leave it behind (He wants her to literally get out of it and leave it behind her) Just stay away (He wants her to stay away from him and it) There's nowhere to hide (He can always find her and I don’t think he’s strong enough to completely leave her. He loves her, so he’s saying you can’t hide from me so get out of here where I can’t drag you in to this)

I see you 'Cause you won't get out of my way (She’s saying I would leave and get out of it but you won’t get out of my mind and you won’t stay away from me) I hear you 'Cause you won't quit screaming my name (She might think he needs her, hence screaming her name, and asking for her help) I feel you 'Cause you won't stop touching my skin (This would be the physical part of their relationship. She remembers his touch, and maybe they’re still having a relationship and he keeps coming back to her) I need you (She needs him in her life) They're coming to take you away (This is when the cops arrive and she’s letting him know they’re here)

Frail and dry, I could lose it all (He’s weak and dry of emotions. He knows he could lose everything because of what he did… or they did. The life he knows and everyone he loves, including her could be gone if he gets locked up) But I cannot recall, it's all wrong (He’s very confused about the way it occurred. He’d been doing whatever it is with her for so long that he can’t even remember how it really began and what went next. This is how deep they are in that situation. It dragged on so long that some memories are distorted) Don't cry, clear away this hate (He’s telling her not to cry and to let go of the hate she has for the situation) And we could start to make it alright (He still thinks there might be a future for the both of them) So fly away and leave it behind (but right now he knows what’s best for her and she needs to run away from it) Return someday (She can come back someday and revisit her memories and everything with more clarity) With red in your eyes (he thinks she’ll be angry at the trouble he got her in and all the manipulating he basically did. Or return with red in your eye could also be pity instead of anger… like she never stopped crying for him)

Cool enough. Not my favorite song on the new album by any means, but I like anything that Ben sings.

the verse has a great vibe, and the melodies of this song are true BB. adding alot to the power of the song. personally i think this song is about a vice. it could be a drug, a person or just a memory. the beguinning sounds like the author is dealing with an uncontroliable sense of isolation, and seeks the comfort of that special high. i think this song is about wanting to escape reality for a little whiole "fly away and leave it behind". the "red in your eyes" is the effect this addiction or substance my have on you.
the chorus "i see you..." hints of not being able to leave this desire behind. it's attacting the person from all angles "screaming my name/ touching my skin." i totally feel this song.

first line is actually "Cold am I" but thats a small mistake. this is definately one of my favorite songs from the new Cd. Just the way the guitars and vocals blend, the way they can go from heavy riffs to a more mellow tone ... BB is great i love em.
