Julie Lyrics

Oh Julie, meet me by the vending machine
Oh Julie, I'm gonna buy you a wedding ring

Eating french fries by the dock of the bay
lots of ketchup and mayonnaise
You said this town's too big for our hearts
you can't tell where it ends or starts

Oh Julie, the future could be so bright
Oh Julie, the ticket inspector's out of sight

What will you do when you graduate
if you stay here you'll suffocate
And all your friends are moving to London
while the cherry trees are still in blossom

Oh Julie
Oh hold me, hold me trough the sweet hereafter

Being with you can be very fatal
somehow we forget to pray for the angels
then the angels make sure that our hearts are devoured
make us jump from the Eiffel Tower

Oh Julie, you know that I ain't for hire
but you can have me, you can trade me for your cigarette lighter

Take a step from the humdrum
tearing down the Colluseum
They said we'd hit the bottom
but the cherry trees are still in blossom

Julie, you know that I ain't for hire
but you can have me, you can trade me for your cigarette lighter
Oh Julie

Cover art for Julie lyrics by Jens Lekman

Lekman's vocal and lyrical style reminds me a lot of Leonard Cohen in this song. Especially compare "I love to be with you but you make me forget so very much I forget to pray for the angels and then the angels forget to pray for us" -So Long, Marianne

Bein with you can be very fatal Somehow we forget to pray for the angels Then the angels make sure our hearts are devoured" -Julie

The first time I heard this I thought it could be a Magnetic Fields cover.

Awesome song. It's like somewhere between Simon & Garfunkel's "Cecilia" and Leonard Cohen's "So Long Marianne."

I love the lines, "Oh Julie, you know that I ain't for hire, but you can have me". It just sums up to me how proud and independent we normally are, and then we're just crumbled to our knees by one person, and we don't care what becomes of us.

I tend to read this song as tragic, though - I always feel like this relationship turned out badly, and this is him writing about his abject failure afterward.

i love this song. but the other version is much better. i can't help but smile every time i hear the line "but the cherry trees are still in blossom".

So, as the complete "The Office" geek that I am I can't helped but be reminded of Jim and Pam in the opening lines. Jens Lekman is one of my favorite artists and as stephyeffy said I can never stop smiling when I hear his songs.
