Give it Up Lyrics

This silence kills the calm
Of the night
I force an anxious patience
Counting every beat and waiting for my turn to die

Give it up, Give it up
Don’t fall for the same things
Give it up, Give it up
Don’t fall for mistakes that I’ve made
Don’t turn away

I understand your ways
Won’t give it up

It’s not me you’re waiting for
Alright, stop waiting
It’s not me you’re waiting for
It’s time to let go, time to let it go

And when
you become
all you’ve lost
Wandering the streets and searching for a place to die

Give it up, Give it up
Don’t fall for the same things
Give it up, Give it up
Don’t fall for mistakes that I’ve made
Don’t turn away

I understand your ways
Don’t give it up

It’s not me you’re waiting for
Alright, stop waiting
It’s not me you’re waiting for
This is where it ends
It’s not me you’re waiting for
It’s time to let go, time to let it go
And if you promise to forget
I’ll try to find a way to make the same mistakes

i love this song. there's so much feeling in Gabes voice when he says/sings "It’s not me you’re waiting for Alright, stop waiting". what does that mean?

well i'd say it means some girl falls for him and he is trying to convince her that he isn't the one for her

In any case. This is tied for Midtown's best song along with Get It Together IMO.

I love this song so much because it has such a diverse tune to it. It seems like every line in the song is just perfectly transitioned in from the best pieces of all the best songs together. :]

i sort of agree with you about the meaning but i think he is trying to tell someone else not to turn away from thier relationship he has made some sort of mistake and finally realizes that it's his fault but he doesn't really think he can change and she is saying "it's not me you're waiting for" because she is trying to let him down easy and he is saying that he won't give it up... telling her not to turn away. He also understands why she is leaving and feels like he is going to die because she is gone. he recognizes that it's his fault at the end and that it won't work because he asks her to forget even though he knows he cant change.

i dunno guys. to me this song isn't about being in a relationship, it's about trying to start one.

he's trying to be with a girl who has a lot of issues and doesn't think she's ready for a relationship and needs to wait and sort things out. that's what he's asking her to give up and let go of. he's telling her that he isn't giving up on her and asking her not to turn away from him.

the lines "don't fall for mistakes that i've made, don't turn away, i understand your ways..." are telling her that he's been through what she's going through. that's also why the second verse (about her) mirrors the first verse (about him).

i think the "if you promise to forget, i'll try and find a way to make mistakes" line has more to do with proving to her he isn't perfect and doesn't expect her to be either.

This song is about a guy who wasted his life away making one dumb mistake after another. Now he feels like he isn't worth a woman's time. He's telling her to give up the idea of the two of them being together. It's not him she should be waiting for...she can do better. Well, maybe, it's just what I'm going through right now but, that is my take on it.

I feel like this song isn't about a relationship with a woman necessarily, I feel like it's more about an addiction of some sort. Whether that’s an addiction to a substance or a relationship, etc. I feel like it's talking about trying to kick a habit that keeps coming back again and again. He says, "Don’t fall for the same things" basically telling himself that he needs to get rid of this addiction before it kills him. He also talks about "wandering the streets, looking for a place to die", this could easily reference the fact that he is at the lowest point in his life and the addiction could claim his life. I also feel like he is almost “talking” to the addiction as if it were a person, saying, “I’m not what your waiting for” (possibly meaning that he isn’t ready to die and he wants to fight the addiction).

But anyways, I love this song, and it could mean many different things, but this is my interpretation.
