forgive me you cut out again
its seems so easy just to blame the reception.
but theres something wrong,
and i dont know why
why you, you never say goodnight.

so please just leave,
you dont mean that much to me.
you keep the ring, ill take the saturdays in bed.
cause i know you need them,
as for me its just another two years.

i wish we'd always wake up newly refreshed
and born again with nothing left to lose
but we dream too much
who needs a crutch
pull off the bandage
theres no wound

so please just leave
you dont mean that much to me.
give back the ring,
keep all those summers with your friends.
cause you know you need them,
as for me its nothing new
just another two years,
that im here losing sleep.

your sore thumb,
your best defense is miles from home
and it reads like a letter with the words
all broken, erased with a razor blade
cause youre gone.

i was lost then i found you
but I'm breaking down now that....

your sore thumb,
your best defense is miles from home
and it reads like a letter with the words
all broken, erased with a razor blade
cause youre gone.

This song signifies a relationship deteriorating slowly. One is confused by the other and has gotten to the point that he doesn't care anymore because it's happened too many times. The relationship probably might have been an actual relationship or a friendship gone bad, either way, this song kicks ass as does The Format.

The format is so good, I saw them with stray light run and the new amsterdams. This song was the best because he wrote it while he was in a relationship about the ending of it and then it ended just like he wrote it.

this is an amazing song i love the lines "so please just leave you dont mean that much to me you keep the ring i'll take those saturdays in bed" To tell someone that you really dont care when you obvously do if you asked them to wear your ring must be a very hard thing to do. and another awesome thing about this song is that josh freese of the vandals and devo played drums for it as well as the first single and wait, wait, wait in the album. i enjoy it

I love this song so much! There is so much emotion especailly when he says "So please just leave" I have felt like that so many times. U just want some one to leave so badly that you want to yell.

i agree it is about a relationship going bad .. but i also see it in a differnt way .. i guess because my best friend left for school, i used the part about "keep the summer with your friends, cause you know you need them, as for me it's nothing new just another two years .. while i'm here losing sleep .." all the way down to the end of the bridge because it was like while she was leaving to go several states away, i was staying home for two more years at another school .. so i guess some parts in this song holds a different meaning to me as of right now.

comment 2. whenever i listen to this it reminds me of my mom.

i left her house to live with my dad summer before 8th grade. shes seriously psychotic. sometimes i just cant talk to her on the phone and instead of making up an exscuse i just say the reception sucks and hang up. its just easier.

and sometimes i just want her to leave. it would be easier, yet again.

but lately its been good. :]

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
