Perspectives Lyrics

It feels like your life's crashing down all around you
Let me ask if it's really so bad
Look at the world in it's suffering
Can you honestly tell me that know one else could understand
All the hurting inside

Why can't you see that freedom is sometimes simply another perspective away
Who could you be if your lens was changed for a moment,
Would you still be the same

A young child looks through a great stained glass window
Watching the people go by
Everyone seems to be wearing a red coat
His mother sees jackets in white
Now he can't understand why does she see it this way

Why can't you see that freedom is sometimes simply another perspective away
Who could you be if your lens was changed for a moment,
Would you still be the same

Yesterday, you really couldn't see
By changing your angle a new world would be
Revealed to your once blinded eyes by moving a few degrees

Why can't you see that freedom is sometimes simply another perspective away
Who could you be if your lens was changed for a moment,
Would you still be the same

I am writing here for the first time, but feel that I may have a likely interpretation of this wonderful song.

Perspective - meaning - Subjective Evaluation of Relative Significance; a point of view.

The song is about changing your point of reference. As a non-Christian, you may view the world as a hopeless place. "It feels like your life's crashing down all around you." The writer is asking the non-Christians to ask themselves if they really believe that there could be someone who cares and understands.

The writer, knowing of the power of Jesus Christ, then explains that true "freedom" comes from within by the power of Christ. The changing of the "lens" is the changing of your heart that takes place when accepting Christ. (And I can attest to the changing of my life and views after accepting Christ as my Savior).

The next verse is a beautiful physical illustration of the "point of view". Not only are they looking through different colors of the stained glass, but the description of what they are looking at changes. "Jacket" or "Coat", "Red" or "White". If the child had only moved "a few degrees", he may have seen the "Jackets in White" (which is the true color). A shifting of your heart (perspective) will lead you to see the truth.

I would urge people to move towards what God has planned for their life. Change your perspective. See through God's eyes. It will show you a life that does not end with death, but an eternal life that is filled with amazing joy. Help others to change their perspective by showing them a different angle. Show them your perspective and allow them to view things through the eyes of a Great Creator.

@psteeves71 That was so beautifully explained! Thank you! I know i'm a little late to the Kutless party XD, but this song really speaks to me and you nailed the meaning so well that i couldn't help but to thank you.

sorry about the previous, got distracted. "It feels like your life's crashing down all around you Let me ask if it's really so bad Look at the world in it's suffering Can you honestly tell me that know one else could understand All the hurting inside

That's true enough, we can connect with that, there's a saying that there's always someone worse off than you... there's also a thing about different, truths, different perspectives, the message, I think is about perception and empathy. It comes over though in just a coule of lines and is repeated over and over. For some reason I thought of Bob Dylan's 'To Ramona'......

After years of listening to this song and not understanding what this means, I came up with my own conclusion. I think that the mother and child see everything in different colors is 'cause they're looking through a stained glass window, and each are looking through a different color of glass, and that makes everything else look like that color. That's the only thing I could think of that the meaning could be logical to me, unless it's something that has to do with perspectives, but that wouldn't make sense to me...

Wow, I never thought about it like that, it completely makes sense, too. Though I wonder what the colors mean. Why does the child see red and the mom see white? Maybe it's the church people out there, and in her eyes their hearts are white, but why would the boy see them as red?

There is no "color" of glass you can look through that will change a color to white. Therefore the mother is looking through a clear pain. A clear unobstructed view. We have all heard the terms "seeing red" (when you are mad), "shades of green" (when we are talking about greed), or "looking through rose colored glasses" (to make things look more like we would want them). These are all examples of perspectives. There perspectives are our own ability to manipulate what God makes clear to us. I don't believe that the writer has...
