Reinventing Your Exit Lyrics

Twelfth and Hide on a Sunday
Feeling like we're gold
And we're nothing short of invincible

It starts again, can you feel it
It takes your breath away
Stop saying that w're invincible

It's round and round
You're uninviting, unrewarding
And I'm misinforming you

[pre chorus]
We all want to be somebody
Right now we're just looking for the exit

[chorus]
This is the way I would have done things
Up against the wall
You got me up against your wall

It's you and me on a Monday
The lies that we told
This is where we both go numb now
You broke my heart again this time
You're fading now you crossed the line

[repeat pre chorus and chorus]

Reaching out for a hand that's not there
But you're not there, you're not there

This is the way I would have done things
Up against the wall, up against your wall
This is the way we should have done things
When we're up against the wall, up against the wall

[repeat chorus to end]

I dont know what you typed in for the url. But I do believe this is Song Meanings.net...not Letscryaboutbandswhentheychange.net. Most bands change, get over it. I think this is a great song. I like the new underoath as well as the old. p.s. animal liberation, your dumb. end.

Ok, after watching one of Aaron's sermons on Youtube...This is what I gained...To me it's about judgemental Christians and that they are no better than the unsaved... "You're uninviting Unrewarding And I'm misinforming you"

Aaron talked about how an organization got together at Marilyn Manson concerts shouting at people and telling them that they are going to hell. That is obviously uninviting.

and, "You got me up against your wall"

...judgemental. I don't know what it is about (That's why I came...Not to cry about Dallas.) but this is just my opinion. ;)

So im here from the future. After reading decades of people arguing about the band itself, I'm here to tell you my meaning of this song.

I have watched the music video and read carefully the lyrics.

First, the music video shows a man with dilated pupils, being stressed or being completely cooked, super high. The very first time I watched the video, I thought the guy was on coke. Splashes water on his face to cool down. Stares in front oh him.

Then the duality with the two persons in the video. One tries to escape the other. The shirt color is darker for the chaser.

They face each other. In the lyrics at that monent, one tries reaching out for help, tries to hold a hand that is not there. A despair call for God's help, which doesn't come.

But when they face each other, we see they are actually the same red: it is the same person. In the end, the chaser helps the other. There is a sorta time loop where "that's what we should have done". Realizing the solution was not asking for God's help, but accepting oneselft.

There are a few videos where the band talks about why they stopped being Christains. Spencer himself said God didn't help him. That he was disappointed of the Christians because he found better help from other, non religious, F-ed up people. The video there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lCN3fgwibM, named "Underoath - Underoath's Three Thoughts on Christianity"

So yeah, perhaps I'm wrong. But in any case that's an interesting angle to try for the meaning of this song.

i think people need to stop saying underOath sucks because they dont. Its their decision if they dont want to be "hardcore" or if they dont want to scream as much and u were a true underOath fan you wouldnt care how much they screamed. bands change... it happens. GET OVER IT! they are still one of the best bands in the world and im sure alot of people will agree with me on this. Sooo

Dallas is GONE! Underoath keeps getting less and less hard, i hate it! Dallas and the first singer were soo amazing , they should have kept them! I'm so disappointed. Underoath was my favorite hardcore band, especially the cries of the past era.
