I think this song is about sadness, even depression. "But it know it's elusive, it grows and it burns you inside", as a person who has been suffering from depression all my life, it became a part of who I am.

wow...just heard this song for the first time and i love it...so beautfiul & so powerful.
what i love about mirah's songs is i can relate to almost all of them...this one i definitly can. i think its about someone who just doesnt really know what they want so they keep going around trying to figure out what it is that they want. she is saying, just stay put for a while and it will come to you. this person is so sure they will find it that they are starting to feel let down, discouraged, and desperate for not finding.
it's as if they were so sure of everything that they are now sure of nothing.

these are my favorite lines ever.
for me, i think it's more like the person was so sure of everything, made plans and stuff, then things drastically changed with no warning, and that's why now the person feels as if he/she knows nothing at all anymore.
like losing your best friend with no warning. you're disoriented and numb, constantly waiting to wake up from it, only to realize it's really happening. helplessness and disbelief. trying to find the lightswitch in the dark.
