Well, no one told me about her
The way she lied
Well, no one told me about her
How many people cried
But it's too late to say you're sorry
How would I know, why should I care?
Please don't bother trying to find her
She's not there
Well, let me tell you 'bout the way she looked
The way she acts and the color of her hair
Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
But she's not there
Well, no one told me about her
What could I do?
Well, no one told me about her
Though they all knew
But it's too late to say you're sorry
How would I know, why should I care?
Please don't bother trying to find her
She's not there
Well, let me tell you about the way she looked
The way she acts and the color of her hair
Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
But she's not there
But it's too late to say you're sorry
How would I know, why should I care?

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
I Can't Go To Sleep

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
I always thought it was
"The way she had to have the color of her hair"
I can't even fool myself into hearing "acted and" over "had to have." I guess it could be the accent, but...
I TOTALLY agree with you, man. For 40 years I've wanted to ask the writer of this song what the lyric really is, because to say "had to have the color of her hair" just accentuates the angst this guy is feeling. I mean, she just HAD to make it that color, that tortured me when she left because I loved it so much.<br /> <br /> Also, why would you say "the way she looked, the way she acted, the color of her hair" -- think about it. The way she LOOKED is the same as a reference to the COLOR of her hair. And then to say "ACT" == it's not symmetric. You would either make a comment on looks, actions, and, say desires ( or something else) or you would ONLY talk aboout LOOKS (i.e., had to have the color of her hair). To say looks, acts, looks, is just lame. Poor lyricism. And this song is a beautiful song. I really do NOT believe it is ACTED. I am positive it is HAD TO HAVE.<br /> <br /> But you know, all these years later, YOURS is the only post in all of google, except another site that specifically logs MISHEARD lyrics, which references "HAD TO HAVE" instead of "ACTED" or "ACTS".<br /> <br /> So please, keep up the good fight. WE will always know it's HAD TO HAVE!!!!<br /> <br /> HAD TO HAVE forever!!!
What accent?
Listen to youtube.com/watch<br /> <br /> "let me tell you about the way she looks [pause] the way she acts [pause] and the color of her hair."<br /> <br /> roricka: "had to have forever !!!!" ?????<br /> <br /> Wtf, you're turning a question of fact into a damned religious crusade. STOP THAT. That's what 5 year olds do, not grown adults.
Maybe he is saying, "The way she'd accent the color or her hair."
