Overdrive Lyrics

Out of bed at the crack of noon
Blare the music and have a swoon
I can’t stop thinking of your face
La la lee la lee loo lace
I’m six feet under the Bhodi tree
With my crap new-age philosophy
Diamonds where there once were stars
I’m sitting in Jayne Mansfield’s car

Yeah yeah I’m independence
Yeah yeah I’m borderline
Yeah yeah I’m California
My minds all screwed and upside down
But my hearts on overdrive
Yeah my hearts on overdrive

I need to take a shower when I look at you
You sting and hurt like a bad tattoo
I wish you’d change my point of view
I cruise the canyon to get some breeze
With hidden treasures up my sleeve
I like the light and hate the heat
But I’ll lick the blood right off your street

Yeah yeah I’m cherry cola
Yeah yeah I’m Candy-eyed
Yeah yeah I’m California
My minds all screwed and upside down
But my hearts on overdrive

They all come here to find a scene
But end up girls on Methedrine
Naked on a TV screen
The dreams that fall beneath my feet
Make my footsteps feel so sweet
But your kisses are my fait accompli

Yeah yeah I’m independence
Yeah yeah I’m borderline
Yeah yeah I’m California
My minds all screwed and upside down
But my hearts on overdrive
Yeah my hearts on overdrive

Katy and Avril have almost nothing in common. The only thing they might share is they sing kind of the same type of music but Katy's is waaaay more deeper than Avril. Katy's lyrics are more poetic, darker/heavy, and make you think a lot of what the song is about. Plus, Katy doesn't lie about who she is, unlike some people arvil. Avril is nothing compared to Katy. And why does everyone always compare Katy to Avril? Probably because most people don't listen to anything but what's around these days. She's more of a Liz Phair, Fiona Apple, or maybe Shirley Manson from Garbage in my opinion if I had to compare her to anyone.

Anyways, I think this song is about being care-free. I love the second verse. Awesome song.

Am I the only person who thinks she looks like Avril, only less Raccoon-ified?

I love this song. Lyrics are awesome... she's so... pop rocker type thing, you know? Hands down, this is one of my all time faves. And she does NOT look like Avril.

A lot about her reminds me of Avril

If you buy her album and listen to it, you'll be able to distinguish her from Avril a lot more easily.

Katy imo is not a pop princess. I would place her more in the grunge/rock/pop arena. Sometimes she is light. Sometimes she is heavy. But the thing I notice in her music is how raw and sharp she can get.

Also, the big difference is Katy is a poet first, and then a singer/songwriter. Her songs are very poetic and can be very ambiguous... and chocked full of analogies (which I LOVE!)

This song obviously made it to the radio and MTV first because it is the popiest song. A lot of artists like to take a song and give it a pop feel or make it sort of a "here I am, and here was my life" type song and this is it.

But a very good song nonetheless!

umm...i DON'T think AT ALL that katy is "pop" you are not looking DEEP enough...look deeper..within the lyrics of this song...don't take it as a "sugar-coated" song...cause its not...and i know no one said that this is a "sugar-coated" song...but still people refer pop music to "sugar-coated" songs...like hilary duff and lindsay lohan...(although i like lindsay lohan)

vanessarox_09. this song is pop, i love katy rose, but this is a pop song. Most songs on her album aren't, but this one definetly is.

this song comes from mean girls doesnt it?

i love katy rose! she kinda does look like avril. . i think its her hair, and they both wear a lot of eyeliner. but katy is way prettier. This is a song to sing in the car. Usually her songs are more deep, personal, and sad. But this one is a really happy song. Im guessing she found a guy that shes crazy about, and everything in life is just so amazing and new!
