it's about a guy trying to salvage what was left of a relationship, hence the title of the song "there is hope for us". he felt he did everything in his power to keep the relationship from self destructing.

"i was inbetween, you were matches and kerosene"

the girl has moved on with her life and the guy still wonders if he still means anything to her, or if she has forgotten him almost as a lark.

"did you celebrate without me? did you tell them all about me?"

he wants more than anything to prove to her that his love for her was true.

"if you ever had a doubt, kiss me on the mouth"

he feels that kissing him on the mouth (an act notably similar to resuscitation) would not only re-unveil their love for each other, but would also revive their broken relationship. thus, his metophorical dying plea to her:

"kiss me on the mouth"

he tries to convince her that her life now isn't as complete or as truly happy as when they were together.

"you can't write, you can't sing, you can't do anything at all"

he wants her to make an attempt to reach out and save him to show him that she still cares.

"is there someone here, can you make the call, please make the call"

this line also reflects his feeling of desperation and fear that someone else might be part of her life.

what he wants her to understand, is that although it may have seemed logical to break up at the time, love is a very irrational thing. it defies all logic. there are "constants [they] can't define."

the last verse sums up and reemphasizes his want for her to be as complete and happy only as he knew her. if only she would kiss him on the mouth give their relationship another chance.

"can you sing for me? can you sing it out?"

I can't believe nobodies commented on this song... well, it's pretty rad. At least I like it. It holds a lot of meaning to me because my boyfriend right now is halfway across the country and well, I won't see him for another 2 weeks and he sent me this song over MSN. And he's really hot and gorgeous. And if you had a boyfriend like him you'd like this song too. haha So anyway, I think this song is about how when you're apart you feel as though you're missing out on so much together, and having totally different experiences... and that's what hurts the most. You can never communicate the right way if you can't touch somebody.

I dont agree with posionthesnuggles at all. I think this is a hurtful song. His loved dumped him and is off with others and he is so hurt, so betrayed. "Is you conscience clear? Can you get it clean?" Thats pretty clear indicators that he feels that she has done something wrong. He wants her back, but he hates what shes done.

I don't think he's hurt or at least that's not what I get. I think she's gone through something horrible and he's comforting her. Also I think it is an example of distant relationships. "Did you celebrate without me" a feeling that many have had when being apart from loved ones. I'm partial to the line "You were matches and kerosene."

It's about a relationship falling apart, and he's clinging on to a girl.

It's possible that she has been lying about their relationship, or that they got together while she was with another guyl.

I think the "Kiss me on the mouth" is indicating that he thinks whatever was between them is still there. It's in the kiss, yadda yadda yadda, they'd get back together.

this song is wikid!!! it has got alot of meanin to it!...n i love it...i think that writing a song like this is tellin sum1 that you love them and dnt want to let them go xxx

this song is wonderful.wonderful.

this song i think is mostly about growing up and shedding your outer shell. Also about when you lose some one its your fauls. I really think the drums sound great in this song but the singer sounds a little bit like a girl.
