The Sorrowed Man Lyrics
Take me away to the quiet place
Where the doors of perception open wide
Smiling faces greet me there
Loved and lost, lost inside
Take me away to the netherworld
Where we dance in the waves, the universe shines
The place that holds my beautiful dream
When I awake, I look to the sky and
Pray that I will live forever
The sorrow man will not be me
Today I'll change my life forever
For what I've seen must surely be
Fly me away on the wings of a dove
To the temple of knowledge we can fly
Smiling inside, peace so clear
One with the all, one within mind
Fly me away to a better world
Where there's no more war and can be no shame
The place that holds the great mystery
When I awake, I look to the sky and
Pray that I will live forever
The sorrow man will not be me
Today I'll change my life forever
For what I've seen must surely be
Here I am, body and soul
Flesh and blood, on this stage I play my role
No, there's no time left for gazing at the sky
No, there's no time left, kiss the wind goodbye and
Pray that I will live forever
The sorrow man will not be me
Today I'll change my life forever
For what I've seen must surely be
In the eyes of the sorrowed man...
Where the doors of perception open wide
Smiling faces greet me there
Loved and lost, lost inside
Take me away to the netherworld
Where we dance in the waves, the universe shines
The place that holds my beautiful dream
When I awake, I look to the sky and
Pray that I will live forever
The sorrow man will not be me
Today I'll change my life forever
For what I've seen must surely be
Fly me away on the wings of a dove

First off have to point out this is possibly my favorite nevermore song. I just really chills me to the bone every time i hear it. I think its about a person who has or continues to have dreams about what its like after death. They wake to find themselves in this chaotic reality and hope with all of their soul that the dream is real or will become real. It does a great job at expressing how humans, unlike any species that we know of, are obsessed with what comes after our bodies have rotted away. I personally wish that everyone would just live their lives to the fullest potential that they can. For all we know this could be the only thing we ever have.
I think it's about drugs experience. The Doors of Perception is a book by Aldous Huxley detailing his experiences when taking mescaline. The title comes from William Blake's quote:

seems to be expressing regret of the man's life, about things he did not do, and even though he is very saddened to be dead, he is very happy to be in the afterlife.
shitty explanation and i'm probably wrong... but oh well.
or maybe this song is about a near death experience? "Today i'll change my life forever, for what i've seen must surely be." like, in his near death experience, he saw that he was going to be in hell or something. i dunno.
