First off have to point out this is possibly my favorite nevermore song. I just really chills me to the bone every time i hear it. I think its about a person who has or continues to have dreams about what its like after death. They wake to find themselves in this chaotic reality and hope with all of their soul that the dream is real or will become real. It does a great job at expressing how humans, unlike any species that we know of, are obsessed with what comes after our bodies have rotted away. I personally wish that everyone would just live their lives to the fullest potential that they can. For all we know this could be the only thing we ever have.

I think it's about drugs experience. The Doors of Perception is a book by Aldous Huxley detailing his experiences when taking mescaline. The title comes from William Blake's quote:

e>"If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite.

So... Pay attention to the lyrics. "Take me away to the quiet place where the doors of perception open wide..."
