i disagree that this song is actually about the girl cutting...i think that the relationship was really harmful to her and it's a metaphor for cutting herself. in the begining she's saying how he's cutting her wrists--i think he hurts her and leaves her and now she's saying no one will ever be allowed to do that to her again. when she says "it took that cut to bring me back to life theyre bleeding and theyre frightened still i hold out both my hands: no one in the world will ever touch me there again." she's saying that it took him really hurting her to make her see the truth. and now she can show people how she's been hurt, but she won't let anyone else hurt her, it's also saying that even if he hurt her. she's never going to get over him or let anyone have the same effect on her.
The beginning is definently a reference to Through the Looking Glass which is indeed the sequel book to Alice in Wonderland. (The movie messed it up). The lines from the walrus and the carpenter part specifically goes " 'The time has come' The walrus said To talk of many things Of seals, and ships, and sealing wax Of cabbages and kings And why the sea is boiling hot And whether pigs have wings" But anyway what I think this song is about is about a girl who is an ex-cutter who happens to be in love with a guy who cuts. "i bared my wrists and promised to begin but you cut the blade straight in" First she shows him her scars and promises to start this relationship but not fall back into cutting. But then he cuts and she sees. Seeing him cut now makes her miss, almost crave, cutting again so she cuts. By the end the relationship is over but the cutting isn't. "it took that cut to bring me back to life theyre bleeding and theyre frightened still i hold out both my hands no one in the world will ever touch me there again." She regrets ever cutting again and now without that guy she has no one because no one will accept her cut up arms and she holds out her hands trying to find someone who will.
Alright you guys are taking the line"i bared my wrists and promised to begin but you cut the blade straight in" too seriously, open your minds to new ideas. It could mean that she broke down her walls to a new person and he did nothing but hurt her. Which is what i think the entire song is about. "all of my blind ambition left me deaf with perfect vision" She thought that it'd be perfect, that she found love and then its nothing whta she thought and she thinks how stupid she was.
I can't believe nobody replied to this song yet, it is wonderfull. I think it is about her cutting, and a lover of hers doesn't accept it or something, or maybe it is because of the lover that she cuts. 'we should not had begun'. Or maybe it is about her telling her boyfriend about her father, problems, cutting, and she's affraid that he'll leave her because of that.
i love this song, the instant i heard it i thought of alice in wonderland, and still even though i know it doesnt have anything to do with that drugged up movie i still think of that. but yes i think it has to do with cutting her self but she knows she shouldnt but then her person goes away so it doesnt matter anymore anyways.

saint, that's exactly what i thought and i think thats probably correct. the poem's from through the looking-glass, though. ah, they're of the same though.
I don't really see it as a song about cutting, but wanting to confront someone she had been a relationship with and wanting answers that they are unwilling to give. The relationship probably shouldn't have happened for some reason ("we should not have begun") and she feels a bit ridiculous for wanting these answers ("it seems absurd somehow") And in the end she's just kind of giving up and choosing not to get involved in a relationship like that again.
Ehh...that's what I take from it. I'm kinda meshing it with how I apply it to my life so...yes.
