Big Blue Violence Lyrics
.....and on came a dawn..... YOU THOUGHT I'D SAY DYING BLACK but i saw burning red, YOU THOUGHT I'D SAY DYING BLACK but i saw burning red, YOU THOUGHT I'D SAY DYING BLACK but i saw burning red. it was all pedal down full speed anticipation- burning my belly, the scent and the hunger- waves crashing through amber coasts, twilight drives pacify ........and then ignite. all the stars gave way to a big blue violence, all the stars gave way to a big blue violence, everything like a gem perfect like we've always wanted. in the crack of dawn ocean air told me things, this was what i had been waiting for, HER DO OR DIE APPEALED TO MY SENSIBILITIES, APPEALED TO ME- LIKE A SMACK, That's right-do or die, i came back different

Shame no ones commented on Horse's most brutal song. The intro/ending is so fucking epic. Actully some relatively cool lyrics too. Don't really care about the meaning. Just that sick ending.
true that. this song is the fucking shit. one of their best. i love the slow breakdown too.
"all the stars gave way to a big blue violence."
Well...I don't mean to point out the obvious, but no one else did... I'm pretty sure it's about the ocean and it's beautiful, yet destructive form.
well it has been a long time since anyone commented here and no one may ever look at this but i feel like saying it anyway
ok what is the most beautiful but possibly destructive thing in anyone"s life? a realastionship maybe? maybe a girl. it does hint at it with a bit less subtlety when he says "in the crack of dawn ocean air told me things, this was what i had been waiting for, HER DO OR DIE APPEALED TO MY SENSIBILITIES, APPEALED TO ME- LIKE A SMACK" just an idea i like horse the band alot and been looking at there lyrics for a good while
This song is so freaking cool. Clearly about a near death experience that changed him. If the lyrics are to be taken literally, he almost drowned to death.
“Thought I’d say dying black, but I saw burning red” -instead of everything going black like expected, he saw red. Burning red could be interpreted as anger rather than peace.
This juxtaposition of anger/“full speed anticipation” and peace/“twilight drives pacify” is reflected throughout the song both musically and lyrically. During the slow breakdown, it seems to reflect that moment in near death experiences where the person accepts their fate and everything slows down.
“I came back different” -something about this line is so evocative. In a literal sense, it shows that this near death experience changed his perspective. But I interpret this whole song as a display of how trauma and adversity change you. Doesn’t have to be near death. My cat just died at 5, my poor little baby and his last year of suffering as I tried to save him was horrifying for me. His death also brought peace to him and myself cause I don’t have to worry about him anymore. This song has brought me some comfort even though I know it has nothing to do with this. The power of good music...
