Scratched Out (Track 11) Lyrics
wake up and waste a day
chase away
a day at a time
and waste away
clean-faced today
clean taste today
toothpaste makes my orange juice sour
waste an hour
or so
my shower is slow
the flowers that grow
outside of my window
are blooming
I'm assuming
that you're comin' over soon
it's almost half past four
and you called here at noon
'cause there's a picture that you wanna see
now I'm not even good at being me anymore.
She's got nicotine-basted lungs
wasted thumbs
and one of them asphalt tastin' tounges
she wakes up to her alarm
her make-up is still on
and she can't remember why she set the damn thing
her heart is a machine
art is meant to be seen
not felt
not heard
it's just paint
they're just words
and fingers are for feeling
fists are for beating
scabs are for healing
and blood is for bleeding
that's just how I used to be
but I'm not even good at being me anymore
I wake up and waste an hour
pace and glower
at the TV set wasting power
aching in my head
I'm banking in the red
and compulsively charging cd's to my account
so come out Virginia, don't make me wait
you Catholic girls start much too late
now it's too late in the day
for a matinee
and I ain't got the money to pay
for you anyway
what should I say?
I know it ain't how it used to be
but I'm not good at being me anymore.

this song is actually titled Scratched Out
all fixed, shirtsleeves.
this song just seems really scatterbrained and all over the place. not rally sure what it's about. good song though
It seems like the song is about the pointlessness of life at times... and how random things catch your attention... because nothing else interesting is happening... And that somehow all of the stuff have robbed him of his identity, hence the "I'm not good at being me anymore" ... or I could go with the approach that he's waiting for his girl to show up... even though he knows that he's changed & can't be the same person that he used to be... the person that she still is.
" toothpaste makes my orange juice sour "
the matches really tell it like it is
is the last part of this right? i mean the catholic girls part? i thought it was Jersey girls??!! i dont know! thats just what it sounds like ...every time i playit back! thats all 1000000 times i have played it back over and over! lol! well yeah tell me if im wrong! x
well.. chickensRULE.. chickens DO rule and im pretty sure that what the song says (jersey girls) and what t says in the lyrics booklet (catholic girls) are different... rockin song nonetheless be sure to checkemout at warped 05
most people probably dont know this but - the lyrics are "come out Virginia don't make me wait...you catholic girls start much too late" from a Billy Joel song called "Only The Good Die Young"...that's about him trying to get his girl to be intimate with him.
the song seems to be pretty straight forward that he's trying to take out a girl who is kinda wishy-washy and afraid to commit, so she jerks him around and doesnt show up to their date
ChickensRULE, there are two different versions of the song one (on the first realse of E Von.) they say "Virginia don't make me wait. you catholic girls start much too late" and on, on the newer version of the album (when they got signed to epitaph i believe it was changed) says "Jenny it's getting late you Jersey girls like to make boys wait" so you're right, they do say something about "jersey girls"
seems like a really random song, i agree with stprocker about some girl just isnt commiting to anything hes just noting everything goin on as he wastes time waiting around for her.
matches rock.. saw em last week on chain me away tour, they perform this song after the show outside. security kept trying to make em stop and shawn kept "conducting" the lil crowd to hum along. haha it was awesome
