A Better Place, A Better Time Lyrics

And so she wakes up
In time to break down
She left a note up on the dresser and she's right on time
You don't know anything right or wrong
I said i know
and she said so
I want to panic but I've had it so I go
You don't owe anything to anyone

But don't take your life
Because it's all that you've got
You'd be better off just up and leaving
If you don't think they will stop

And when you wake up
Everything is going to be fine
I guarantee that you wake up in a better place and in a better time
So you're tired of living
And you feel like you might give in
Well don't
It's not your time

Looking through the paper today
Looking for a specific page
Don't want to find her full name followed by dates
Because when I left her alone
She made a sound like a moan
"You're known by everyone for everything you've done"
Fuck buying flowers for graves
I'd rather buy you a one way non-stop
To anywhere find anyone do anything
Forget and start again, love
She said she won't go
And that's that
it hurts too much

To stand by
You've got to stop and draw a line
And everyone here has to choose a side
Tonight
The moment of truth is haunting you
Don't forget your family regardless of what you choose to do
You can't decide
And they're screaming "why won't you?"
I'll start the engine but i can't take this ride for you
I'll draw the bath and I'll load your gun
But i hope so bad that you bathe and hunt

Annie's tired of forgetting about today and always planning for tomorrow, Annie says
"The saddest day I came acrosss was when I learned that life goes on without me", Annie says
"if everyone has someone else, well I ain't got nobody's love to save me", Annie says
"i think I'll pass away tonight, because it seems I'll never get it right if it's just me"

And when you wake up
Everything is going to be fine
I guarantee that you wake up in a better place and in a better time
So you're tired of living
And you feel like you might give in
Well don't
It's not your time

Annie says she wouldn't mind if they never find a cure for all her problems
Annie says as long as she has someone near to make it clear she does not need to solve them
"Oh, this loneliness is killing me
It's filling me with anger and resentment
I'm turning into someone that i never thought I'd have to be again"

And when you wake up
Everything is going to be fine
I guarantee that you wake up in a better place and in a better time
So you're tired of living
And you feel like you might give in
Well don't
It's not your time

And even if it was oh, I wouldn't let you go
You could run run run run but i will follow close
Someday you will say "that's it, that's all"
But I'll be waiting there with open arms to break your fall
I know that you think that you're on your own
But just know that I'm here and I'll lead you home
If you let me
She said "forget me"
But I can't

Okay I'm pretty sick of reading the same god damn linterpretation over and over agan with a little fucking suprise twist from everyone else's.that doesn't mean dick.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW: Annie's some suicidal chick this guy tells her she's being retarded because her life can't be that bad. Tomas Kalnoky's the fucking man and so is any song he's ever thought of

That's kind of how analysis works in an open forum. Might I add that your post is both contributing and intelligent.

My favourite part of the song is the "It hurts too much" verse. This song is so brilliant, and emotional. Streetlight are my favourite band.

does anyone know who this Annie girl was?

was it an old girlfriend of Tomas's or a really good friend?

i think annie is a fictional character made up by thomas........ maybe to be seen in the new upcomming album again???

i get the feeling that she is based on a real person though, a lot of his songs are based on his life experiences i always wonder if this album is about his past experience with suicide in point/counterpoint he says "Trust me I've been there before I would not wish it upon my greatest enemy" and so i wonder if he is writing this album almost like what he wishes he could have told himself in the past to help people now in that situation

I'm probably wrong about this but that is just a thought either...

I saw the song to be a bit more like a story. In the beginning, Annie and the speaker are together. She's depressed. They get in a fight and he leaves. But even after he leaves he's still making sure she's okay and wants her to be safe. "Looking through the paper today, looking for a specific page. I don't want to find her full name followed by dates." If they were together the entire time, he wouldn't have to look through the paper to make sure she's okay. I like the second half of the song a lot where it goes back and forth from the "Annie says" verses and the chorus. It's kind of like a conversation. Annie is listing off all her problems and all he can say is "things will get better" because he really can't say anything more. At the end of the song, he realizes he wants to really be there for her, which is that last part of the song. Finally after explaining for the umpteenth time that things will get better with time, he says that he'll always be there for her reguardless of her problems and he'll be the one who "makes it clear she doesn't need to solve them." I don't think he exactly saved her at the end, it doesn't really give an answer to if she died or not.. but what it does answer is that they're together and he is going to be there for her.

This is a good song. I like streetlight manifesto. ALOT.

a lot is two words retard.

MrPrinter's got a point, emphasizing something that is misspelled is a tragic flaw.

amazing song - amazing band

i recently traveled 11 hours to see them at Skate and Surf Fest and I just fucking teared up with joy when they played this song.

Streetlight has an air about them... they are genuinely excited to be doing what they are doing and that spills over into the music.
Edited by oofus on May 26 2004, at 10:42PM

Edited by oofus on May 26 2004, at 10:42PM
