Enemies Of Reality Lyrics
We are the nothing grating against the norm
We are the something that will not conform
No one understands what we've been given
We are the useless by-products of soulless meat
We are all gone we all sing the same tragedy
Open wide and eat the worms of the enemy
We are the enemies of reality, in a world that's unforgiving
Waiting to sanitize bastard tongues
To purify the ignorance that hides the sun
The less you understand the more you're driven
Packaged and processed the masses are force fed
The standards they judge us on swallow the rot we shed
Open wide and eat the worms of the enemy
We are the enemies of reality, in a world that's unforgiving
Breathing dust and decay while I'm sipping
Human trust and betrayal
Losing faith once again
Take my hand my friend, my foe, I am enemy
Open wide and eat the worms of the enemy
We are the enemies of reality, in a world that's unforgiving
Open wide, eat the words, become what you most fear
We are the something that will not conform
No one understands what we've been given
We are all gone we all sing the same tragedy
We are the enemies of reality, in a world that's unforgiving
To purify the ignorance that hides the sun
The less you understand the more you're driven
The standards they judge us on swallow the rot we shed
We are the enemies of reality, in a world that's unforgiving
Human trust and betrayal
Losing faith once again
Take my hand my friend, my foe, I am enemy
We are the enemies of reality, in a world that's unforgiving
Open wide, eat the words, become what you most fear

after long disection and analyzation i have realized this song is about the government made lies into truths and force fed them to the people (cough cough iraq) now warrell is trying to tell us the reality we think we live in is not at all what it seems and we have to eat the worms (unspoken truths) and become what we thought we hated and realize the truth for ourselves and dont be so god damn reliant in the government to give us the truth FIND THE TRUTH FOR YOURSELF
the "worms" may represent ideas. the "enemies of reality" are those who do not conform. the reason they do not conform, is because their "reality" is different from others. when you "eat the worms of the enemy" you are giving in to their ways. like meat eventually will attract worms, humans always seem to develop unchanging ideas. to these people, their ideas "sanitize" and "purify" the minds of others.
"Take my hand my friend, my foe, I am enemy" - your enemies are not always obvious ones. it is possible to control someone without being directly hostile.
"Open wide, eat the words, become what you most fear" - now you are just like them
For me, simply, Enemies of Reality is about group of people who think different, who sense different, see things in different way. This could be some very general group, such as people listening to metal in the realm of pop music, but could be also more specific. Digging into the song, thru analisys, you can come to conclusion, that song tells about people who do not accept the world in the form it's massively sold in the world, but who search for the truth. Point of view of this group is often very different than the others, you can trace other songs from album and from other albums, to see the same logic, because Nevermore seem to follow same logic all the time. You have "Ambivalent", "I voyager", you have "Seed Awakening" and masses of other songs which tell about same topic. The logic of drugs takes you the right direction, but not best place. About drugs you can listen for example in "Inside four walls" and whole band tells that directly. For me the group here, which I was talking about, is people who comprehend and understand world in the different, other way. In the Nevermore's way. They have some philosophic ideas about life, about truth, about other people and Enemies of Reality is just people who think in same way as they think. Worms up here is mainly same point of view, but it can mean also songs, lyrics. They give you their hand to take and follow, to "infect" you with their way of thinking, of knowing. And for me it's OK. I am the enemy. I became enemy too...
Pretty much.
I think this song is about drugs. The "enemies of reality" are drug addicts. You would kinda lose your sense of reality when you're stoned. But I believe blink182sux a little because the song does have the Middle Eastern sound.
I can't help but disagree with blink182sux and cfury5. I find that Bananahpme05's explanation is very sound. I wouldn't put it past Nevermore to write a song about Ira1 and American lies but it doesn't quite feel right there to me. Nevermore's lyrics are cryptic, but obvious at the same time... I can see it dealing with lies and deciet and control, but I can't see it tieing directly in with Iraq.
And I don't think it's about drug abuse. I can see it more than I can see direct ties to Iraq, but knowing Nevermore, Bananaphone05's lyrics seem a lot more likely.
Williams' drumming in this is quite good, lots of subtle stuff and great beats.. Anyway, I think bananaphone pretty much nailed it, damn.
I like your idea about Iraq and all, because Bush is an asshole to put it lightly, but wasn't this album out before all of that went down? I'm not sure, but I think this came out before March 19, 2003 (they could have written about what lead up to the war though).
They made a video for this.
The drumming is extremely good in this song.
