take your parents credit cards
buy a bunch of crap that you don’t need
and will never ever use
your mom and dad are out of town
and they trust you implicitly
a rubber chicken for the mail man
is on your horizon
and there is nothing
that i’d rather do
your sugar daddy’s turning 50
he shops for you indiscreetly
a fashion show
in his penthouse and black silk kimono
step out into your short shorts
put out as often as you need to
to make his summer number one
buy a bunch of crap that you don’t need
and will never ever use
your mom and dad are out of town
and they trust you implicitly
a rubber chicken for the mail man
is on your horizon
that i’d rather do
he shops for you indiscreetly

put out as often as you need to
to make his summer number one

Pretty self-explanatory. Comparing a child's reliance and exploitation of his parents to a man's reliance and exploitation of his older, rich lover/"sugar daddy".
how did you find these lyrics?
The sinister quality of the singer's voice really makes this song. It's about a person's vanity and dependence through life. But the music makes this sound so creepy, like the kid is some kind of vampiry leech creature. The way he sounds like he's whisper-yelling these words desperately into the night (with sounds like chimes in the background), and even the title with its gothic associations (Edgar Allen Poe), help do this.
just because a man is singing doesnt mean it's about a man. there's more than a few songs by xiu xiu sung from a girl's perspective... i imagine this song is about a girl mostly because the line "step out into your short shorts, put out as often as you need to" yeah short shorts could be worn by a man to impress his gay lover... but it's more of a feminine piece of imagery in my opinion... also ive never heard anyone say put out when they are talking about a guy... i could be wrong... maybe the only reason that i picture a girl instead of a guy being the subject of this song is because im not bisexual like jamie is.
Could someone please explain to me what "a rubber chicken for the mail man is on your horizon" is supposed to mean?
I think the rubber chicken is just symbolism for pulling immature bullshit. leaving a rubber chicken for the mail man to find the mail box when your parents aren't around to discipline you. making the wrong decision and being too young and stupid to realize how dumb you're being. like whoring yourself out for clothes, for example.

I don't think she's whoring herself out for clothes per-se. It's more like whoring herself to get attention that she didn't receive from her parents, the clothes and toys being the only expressions of love she understands.
