Novella Lyrics
WASTING TIME, it's over and ended
WASTING TIME, we deserve
HOLD THAT LINE, they ask us in safety
Hold that line, when we talk
I can see the headlights and pavements
My legs can't carry me that far
If this distance isn't enough they'll cry
Another river to see you drown
FACELESS LIES, it's easy to speak when
Every word is your own
SELFISH EYES look onward in protest as we
Tear down their disguise
Your days were golden while
We bled...
WASTING TIME, we deserve
HOLD THAT LINE, they ask us in safety
Hold that line, when we talk
My legs can't carry me that far
If this distance isn't enough they'll cry
Another river to see you drown
Every word is your own
SELFISH EYES look onward in protest as we
Tear down their disguise
We bled...

Matt Davies actually said on their video Q&A thingy on youtube that there was a story behind the vocals: "I can see the headlights and pavements My legs can't carry me that far..." from when he actually walked home from a party drunk with only his boxers on in the middle of the road. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd4PEBUWvYE&feature=user
what the hell, y has no1 commented, this song is sooo sweet, a brillian ending to an amazing album!
love this song :D album's also good
I love the begging of this song up until it goes to the slower, mellower part. Good song but.
I still quite haven't figured out a meaning for this song, it makes me think of possible political views with all the 'Self Lies" "As we tear down there disguise" etc. But on the other hand the chorus reminds me of being on a night out. "I can see the headlights and pavements, My legs can't carry me that far". This being like when you're totally pissed and can't walk. And then "If this distance isn't enough they'll cry another river to see you drown". This reminds me of all the times when there always ends up with some girls crying. But I'm not sure the verses match up with the chorus. It's all intertwining and confusing. I love this song though, I personally love the ending where it all mellows down and then builds up into an instrumental crescendo, absolutely brilliant. Great end to the album, can't wait for the new one in 2005!! \m/
Love the instrumental at the end, this is often the last song I play before I go to sleep, I never get bored of it
I love this song its brilliant
This is an amzing song, one of my favorites on the album.
I love how Matt just whispers 'I can see the headlights'.
its about being reaaaaaallllyyyyy drunk i can see the headlights and pavements but my legs can't carry me that far
yea thats what Matt says. i think the rest of it is about people who are full of themselves and like never stop talkin and think there the greatest etc. but it's all just a cover up of the insecurities leest thts how i see the last verse and "days are golden" bit.

the first bit i think is about how those same people come to us and try and tell us about there problems but dont want us to tell other people "hold that line" also hold that line might be like we try to confide in...

basically i think matt went to a party got really drunk and on his walk home had these thoughts about the people at the party and the headlights and pavements were all so confusing coz he was drunk. it's about being drunk, yea
and dance with misery is right about the album thing
