All There Is Lyrics

This song goes out
to all the hopeless sinners,
with grave allegiances,
so meaningless and vain,

though walking wounded in a pageant of contenders,
who balance on a rail of pain for just a pale refrain.

And everything is barely missed, but relations and (predicts?)
my expression, my confession, add it up, extract a lesson, more than this,
once again, like a bullet as a friend, tell me: can that be all there is?

In my rectory of doubt, I kneel to pray like one devout,
as time the great great dreamless sleep of a useless modern god
erodes away each sorry day as wretched adams, one hell to pay--
contained upon a rail of pain for just a little rain.

And everything is dearly missed, but relations and predicts
my expression, my confession, add it up, extract a lesson, more than this,
once again, like a bullet as a friend, tell me: can that be all there is?

There’s an endless disposition,
and it doesn’t mean a goddamn thing—
there’s space for a paper-airplane race in the eye of a hurricane.

And if pigs could fly, then surely so could I,
but this pedestrian knows better than to even try,
and my divinity is caught between the colors of a butterfly.

And everything is dearly missed, but relations and predicts
my expression, my confession, add it up, extract duress and more than this,
once again, like a bullet as a friend, tell me: can that be all there is?

I think that this song is an attack on the ignorance of many people. I think the " can that be all there is" part is like saying " is that all there is to your point", talking about the shallowness to most people's arguements and reasoning. I think onece again they are hitting on religion and the lack of eveidence behind it, yet despite this many people choose to follow it and allow it to rule their lives, whilst not really focusing on the real troubles in life. Basically it is a call for people to think through their reasoning, "And if pigs could fly, surely so could I But this pedestrian knows better than to even try" It's like people don't attempt to fly because they know they can't and it is impossible, yet believing in god's existance is something people do without really looking behind it.

like the title, I think its about all there is. there has to be life outside of everything man has created. think about what life would be like if it wasnt like this. if peace ruled instead of people. just think about what we have created

intrigued.punk is goddamn right. And in reality you see that shit all over the place. People blindly follow and believe in 'god', never questioning his existence no matter how profoundly insipid the vestige is. People never see the real problems in life because they're blindly following the tragic laws and selfish ideals of religion.

Yeah I sort of agree with Safety. There is of course religious distraction as well, and the Christians who believe that the world was made for them to serve God, only to begin and end with the human race. Could this be all there is? Is a question that calls attention to the existential idea that everything is significant. With "atoms" and "butterflys", how could the Cultural doctrine of faith, society, and humanity be "All there is?" We are only a whisper in time....

I just want to point out that this was writen by Mr. Brett. Not greg graffin.

poor brett never gets credit for his genious songs.

I think it's fairly easy to tell whether Greg or Brett wrote the lyrics. Greg's tend to be more cerebral, Brett's more emotional/personal. Not an absolute, but a general trend.

This song, along with Sorrow, is what got me into songwriting, (which then turned to poetry). Brilliant, brilliant. There best song ever.

"There’s an endless disposition, and it doesn’t mean a goddamn thing— there’s space for a paper-airplane race in the eye of a hurricane.

And if pigs could fly, then surely so could I, but this pedestrian knows better than to even try, and my divinity is caught between the colors of a butterfly. " ^ Best verse(s) ever. End of story. I think this is more about is life all there is, is this all there is, like, is this emptiness, this pain, this world full of hate, all that there is? Like, the part in about pigs being able to fly, maybe talking about how the greedy get all the good things, while those with morals are always kept down. THE MAN IS BRINGIN' US DOWN, DUDE! But...seriously.

I enjoy this band as much as I do beating my head against the wall, because it feels so good when I stop.

This song goes out to all the hopeless sinners, with grave allegiances, so meaningless and vain,

The walking wounded, in a pageant of contenders Who balance on a rail of pain for a pail of rain And everything is barely mist - blood relations and bricks My expression, my confession Add it up, extract a lesson more than this Once again, like a bullet as a friend tell me Can that be all there is? In my rectory of doubt, I kneel to pray like on devout As the great gray dreamless sleep, of a uselss modern god Erodes away each storied day, as wretched Adam's with hell to pay Content upon a rail of pain just a little rain And everything is dearly missed - blood relations and bricks My expression, my confession Add it up, extract a lesson more than this Once again, like a bullet as a friend tell me Can that be all there is? Those are the real lyrics...out of the CD booklet the rail of pain/pail of rain line is fucking brilliant....not that you should expect any less from Graffin. As is the part about the hurricane 20/10...congrats Greg, BR'S true comeback album after that seemingly never ending stint with Atlantic, with which only one good album was done Gray Race

@gofuckyourself this song was written by Mr.Brett, not Greg

intrigued_punk, I think you have half of it.

Even after eliminating religion and blind faith, you're left with questions about the nature of the world and a search for meaning. The singer has already rejected blind faith and he's still looking.

I figured this song was written by Brett...His lyrics are so weird. But amazing, all the same.

I agree with Safety, defintely. Great song.

Thats all there is for an atheist like Gregg Graffin.

There are some really great posts on here in relation to this song, so thanks everyone for sharing!

The thing this song really makes me think about is growing up as a kid and learning more and more all the things my parents told me were all lies... the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, Tooth Fairy, Leprechauns... the list goes on. Why should God be any different? And I ask that as a serious question. There's no physical evidence that makes me feel completely confident about the existence a God. People make up so many things through-out history that get passed...

8===D~< ( .`_ ) ... That's me cumming into your asshole gallium. You might need to use a little imagination, with which i'm sure you'll have trouble. So I will explain. The 8===D is my fat, hard, lesbian, black left-wing cock. Get it? There's a contradiction somewhere in there to emphasize the fact that i am mocking what people like you stereotypically hate. If you think REALLY think hard about that one you may find some more irony. Next, is the ~<. That's the fun stuff! ...
