Lightning Rod Lyrics

I am waiting on a mountaintop
For the moment that the sky will strike
My apologies are forever lost
Soon to ashes in a flash of light

Miles away from me
Hope is fading soon
Gone forever is a waste of time
My intentions like this waiting room
Only bring to me a fading light

Locked up forever inside
I look to the stars and ask why
Oh, if they could just change my dark heart to feel
All our self away
Thrown away

I am waiting like the single bloom
Lost forever in the storm of life
My intentions like this waiting room
Only bring to me a fading light

Locked up forever inside
I look to the stars and ask why
Oh if they could just show these wounds how to heal

Here I am (Oohh...Why?)
My last stand (Oohh...Why?)
And I know for all the rising and falling there's nothing to show

Throw me down, throw me down, throw me down...

It's been raining
And I will pay
World must come to me
I am a lightning rod

I am waiting
On a mountaintop
World above me
He will strike me

Locked up forever inside
I look to the stars and ask why
Oh if they could just change my dark heart to feel

All I am (Oohh...Why?)
My last stand (Oohh...Why?)
And I know for all the rising and falling there's nothing to show

Simply put,it's about life. He's been through a lot,he's taken a lot,and he himself has done things wrong, thou the apologies he gives mean nothing and are gone as soon as they are given He's given up on home on life ever going the right way,but still it lingers on,he feels like wasting time on that little of it what is left His good intention don't shine within so much dark hes locking within himself, contemplating himself He is asking why life was the way it was,and why his heart has become dark and cold The him he could have been,he has thrown away

But still,he is waiting for that one boom, the one that can either bring him back or destroy him His waiting for thunderstrike(emotion) strong enough to bright him back to life or put him out of it It's raining, its been a long time coming, and he is willing to pay, either way it goes he feels the world will come up with and deliver him one big hit..the he(maybe god) For all the hits he has taken so far,and got back up he has nothing, life is to him is not worth much So he is ready to risk everything this time, the last stand, live or die Let the thunder strike,he is the lightning rod

I think this song is a metaphor for the feeling that the world is out to get you. I know the feeling - I've had a good 6 month long run of bad luck lately, and sometimes it really does feel like I'm standing on a mountain, waiting for the next strike of lightning to knock me down. Oh yeah - the intro to this song is kick-ass too.

I think it's about a guy who's been a hurt a lot and has effectively shut himself off from the world, but now he wants a second chance at life.

I think it's about a guy about to be punished for doing something bad. If you read the first verse, it sort of makes sense

Well it does sound like it's about some guy ding on a hill waiting to be struck by lightning, but I agree that it's probably a metaphor for something

Cover art for Lightning Rod lyrics by Offspring, The

God is out to punish him. He tries and just keeps trying, but he cant get anywhere.

"All the rising and falling...theres nothing to show"

I think that explains the song perfectly and what they are trying to get across.
