Race Against Myself Lyrics

(I realise)
All I want
All I need
Always lies just out of reach
I've been coming up empty

(I realise)
I ran as fast as I can run
I pushed as hard as anyone
But still there's nothing for me

(And I want)
I've tried as hard as I can
(And I need)
I've taken all I can stand
(And I fall)
But I am running a race
Against myself
Against myself, yeah

(I realise)
Running out, struggle on
And my sorrow is my song
My whole world is half parted
(I realise)
For my pain I have none
After all is said and done
Now I'm back where I started

(And I want)
I've gone as far as I can
(And I need)
I've taken all I can stand
(And I fall)
But I am running a race
Against myself
Against myself, yeah

(And I want)
I've tried as hard as I can
(And I need)
I've taken all I can stand
(And I fall)
But I am losing the race
Against myself
Against myself, yeah

One of the best songs from Splinter. It's about being continually pushed around by the world so much that the battle begins to be against yourself, finding the motivation to keep going.

this is a fuckin great song w/ a harder beat. it's about how, on the road of life, a lot of shit comes your way and seems to put you down. it's like ever choice you makes comes back to haunt you and screw you over, feeling like a race against yourself.

I personally liked almost every song on the album. They are so amazing.

I think its pretty much that he keeps fighting himself and there is almost no point to it, and he ends up right back where he started.

this song is all about you worling against yourself. and i think it is the "id" against the "self" or basically the natural animal instincts vs the conscious.

seems to make me feel better when deepressed..not sure how but it just does, it's just brilliant!

I think that this is about someone who is depressed, but still tries to stay up and fight back and survive. His life is spinning out of control and he can't help it and its too much, but he still tries to keep up, as if by catching up to himself, he could fix everything and he wouldn't be depressed anymore. But then it gets to be too much, and he gives up and realizes that he can never win. Its a really sad song and it describes how I feel a lot

This is probably the song I enjoy the least on Splinter. It's still a decent song, but I like the lyrical content more than the music. The chorus has a nice hook, though. So, to reiterate what everyone else has already said: it's about taking so much of so many different kinds of abuse that eventually the only thing you're fighting for is your own sanity.

I agree with said posts. I just wanted to say that there is one minor lyrical error.

It's

"my whole world is half-hearted" not half parted
