Humble Me Lyrics

Went out on a limb
Gone too far
Broken down at the side of the road
Stranded at the outskirts and sun's creepin' up
Baby's in the backseat
Still fast asleep
Dreamin' of better days
I don't want to call you but you're all i have to turn to

What do you say
When it's all gone away?
Baby i didn't mean to hurt you
Truth spoke in whispers will tear you apart
No matter how hard you resist it
It never rains when you want it to

You humble me Lord
Humble me Lord
I'm on my knees empty
You humble me Lord
You humble me Lord
Please, please, please forgive me

Baby teresa got your eyes
I see you all the time
When she asks about her daddy
I never know what to say

Heard you knocked the bottle
And helped to build the church
You carry an honest wage
Is it true you have someone keeping you company?

What do you say
When its all gone away?
Baby i didn't meant to hurt you
Truth spoke in whispers will tear you apart
No matter how hard you resist it
It never rains when you want it to

You humble me Lord
Humble me Lord
I'm on me knees empty
You humble me Lord
You humble me Lord
Please, please, please forgive me

The weird thing is, even though the lyrics are "You humble me lord" I never once connected this to god. I still don't. I still think the person who humbles her is the father of her baby.

That's the same thing I fought… I think she suffers so much about this guy that she even puts him in the position of God.. this is how their relationship looks like

@somethingliketreclo I did not get that at all. I lost my son in 2015. It was the most humbling experience. When we love someone with every fiber of our being and we lose them, we question everything we ever did, didn't do, said and didn't say. There is shame. "The truth spoke in whispers will tear you apart" is a brilliant line. This song is about loneliness, sorrow, the pain of mistakes, yet still being connected by love....."I don't want to call you but you're all I have to turn to".... She is alone and empty. At times like these,...

I love this song. I feel like she is singing to her ex partner.......... since she is singing in despair of hopelessness and loneliness....

I cannot believe that no one has commented on this beautiful, simple song. It is about a single mother who has no one to turn to. She is at rock bottom, and she is humbled.

This song has a lot of religious message in it - However, I don't think Norah herself is really religious, so it's hard to say. I think she (The character) is calling out to God, and maybe also her ex-partner.

Kevin Breit wrote the song not Norah. Norah barely writes any of the songs she sings. The song is about the difficulty of being away from his family when they were on tour. He eventually left the band because he didn't want to sacrifice his family especially with his children so young.

I know that Norah did not write it but it is still one of my fav songs of hers. :)

Kevin Breit and Norah merge a story that most of us share (many times over for me) with a heart breaking delivery that moves me every time I hear her. Genius lyrics raised to an even higher plane by Norah\'s soulful artistry. I think we should write a screenplay based on this song and give it to Spielberg.

Ok, is it me or does this song seem to resonate with Norah as Teresa? I know it is not a parallel story, just resonates. The way it is performed just sounds so personal too.
