Sink, Florida, Sink Lyrics

not one more word tonight
between here and there
we'll put a distance the size of the ocean
so now his heart can beat a skipping rhythm
as the cadence carries me
i almost drift away
far enough to forget
that when it comes you cannot hesitate
and when found i will write an account
and seal it in an envelope
addressed to your last known residence

and we sink, and we drown
and what is lost can never be found
well these arms did swim until the lungs pulled in
the panic was lost in a deep understanding
that you will see what is wrong with everything
what is wrong with you and me
they make all the right reasons to fuck it up
you're gonna fuck it up

for me, this song is very metaphoric. i think, it's about a relationship, the boy and the girl are still together, but they drifted apart. in the end, they couldn't talk together and between them there was a 'distance the size of the oceans'. the guy who sing this song drift more and more away from his girlfriend, the cadence carrie's him almost far enought to forget his love, but then he remember to it and tries to find a way back to his girl.

but he can't, he 'swims in the big oceans, longing to his gf', until he's finished and so they sink and drown in the ocean of their lost love. and the panic of drowning goes under with the realazion, what went wrong with them and that in fact they made everything right to 'fuck it up', to brake their love...

The way this song has connected with me goes something like this. There are two people in love. They've come to the end of their relationship and they had their last moment where maybe everything they wanted to say didn't get said. To be specific the character speakin in the lyrics. Now they've moved on with their lives and are faraway from one another. The guy is sure if he would have said what he had to instead of just letting his lover go everything would be different. He's haunted by these thoughts and wants to just write it down and see if the love he lost would read it and would change their mind. By the next verse you can safely assume their romance was spent by the ocean or shoreline of some sort and the person has come back to his senses and metaphorically explains how their love is gone and he really can't change it as bad he wants to. It's all over. The woahs are giant sighs or this pressure being alliviated of the shoulders of a jaded lover.

the title of this song always makes me smile. you know, since florida is supposed to eventually be underwater as a result of global warming. i think it's about a couple in florida, and there's a person outside of florida who loves the girl, but the couple and their past and everything in their life will be destroyed when florida "sinks". as they're drowning they realize everything that's wrong with the world and their lives, and it makes it a little better. that's just what i think, though, and it's probably completely wrong. haha

This song reminds me of Hero and Leander. Leander swims to Hero by way of her lighting a candle to guide him. Aphrodite gets angry and causes the waves stir and the wind to stifle the light of the candle. With nothing left to guide Leander to shore, he tires and drowns ("Well these arms did swim, until the lungs pulled in").

He tricks Hero into believing that the Goddess of love would not accept a priestess that was a virgin, coaxing her to bed him. He perverted the intention ("And you will see what is wrong with everything/what is wrong with you and me/Gave all the right reasons to fuck it up/You're gonna fuck it up")

Long story short, they both die.
