This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
You were a million miles behind
And I was crying every time I'd leave you
Then I didn't want to see you
I still keep my watch two hours behind
Someone turned the lights out there in Memphis
Ooh, that's where my family's buried and gone (gone)
Oh yeah
Last time I was there I noticed a space left
Oh, next to them there in Memphis, yeah
In the damn back lawn
I didn't know that I was in the crowd
Oh and then the fresh cut grass stopped growing
Everything on my shelf has fallen
I still keep my watch two hours behind
Someone turned the lights out there in Memphis
Ooh, that's where my family are buried and gone (gone)
Oh yeah
Last time I was there I noticed a space left
Oh, next to them there in Memphis, yeah
In the damn back lawn
Was that bridge I was crossing?
Somewhere I stopped walking
I guess I fell off on my own
I heard all the roads they lead to Memphis
Ooh, except for the one I'm stumbling down (down)
And I'll, I'll be damned if I ever get this
Little son of a bitch from Memphis
Oh, someday I guess I guess
Yeah and I haven't forgot
Yeah, yeah, yeah
(Um yeah)
Yeah (yeah)
(Yeah)

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
Plastic Bag

Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
It's obviously about where Elvis and his family are buried. In the backyard of Graceland in Memphis. The space left is for her (Lisa). There is a huge lawn she used to play on with her parents in a golf cart. It's Lisa Maria as an adult looking back. She's sad he died so long ago and she was so young. She really did set her watch 2 hours behind because he was always late. Her perception as the daughter of Elvis.
@Lorz She kept her watch set two hours behind because that was "Memphis Time." Not because her Dad was late. I used to know her very casually before she started her singing career. <br /> WE were somewhere once (I prefer not say) and she walked by and sat down. A mutual friend was kidding me about me keeping my watch on NYC time, which I did, and said that she kept hers on Memphis time. We compared watches and told her someone had given me a two time-zone watch, and she said, "That's cheating then, isn't it?" So, THAT is the meaning of that line. It's about having one foot in the present and one foot in the past, which causes you to stumble, a word she also uses. I was wearing a button on my canvas bag that said "Recovering New Yorker" and she liked that. She said she wanted one that said she wanted one like it that said "Recovering Memphian"
@Lorz ..... your perception is right on..... my watch is set years behind....when my brother crossed over in 1979.... nothing heals the heart.
@Lorz she set her watch 2 hours behind to Tennessee Time because after her mom left Graceland with her they lived in California, she still always lived on Tennessee time, and by her watch, (where her heart was)... but lived on the West Coast with her mom..
The more I hear of this beautiful spirited soul......I feel her heart..... I just wish that people weren't judgemental.... "Walk a Mile" ..... walk a mile...... understanding always comes as a teacher and later friend. Lisa Marie~ "I L <3 V E You!
It hits different since LM passed.
This is a metaphorical way of telling us about an idea that she had about a time and place in her life
@lmpfan . It's about Elvis, Memphis, and her family buried in the backyard of Graceland.
