it's about the misfit kids that will always be there, always be harrassed, and the other kids that torture them and complain about how bad life is while they make life miserable to the misfit kids

The first thing to understand about The Birthday Massacre is that they're a very imaginative band. As most of us know their original name was "Imagica" before they had to change it due to copyright issues.

That being said some of their songs might not have definitive meanings but instread be abstract poetry meant only to evoke a certain fantastical, dreamlike scene. (Think of the blue music video)

The lyrics to Horror Show are vague so I can only decipher a basic outline of meaning. It seems to be an egotistical, self-glorifying song where they (the band) are looking back on all the people who were popular in highschool, people they used to think were cool and want to befriend or go out with and were basically intimidated by and now they see themselves as the superior ones and are basically saying "look at those people now, they all have such ugly, mundane lives compared to us. Why did we ever think those people were cool or even give them the time of day?" etc.

I don't know if that's the meaning for certain or if it's what the whole song is about, but I definitely sense there's a message like that in some of the parts.

It means growing up. The line "And it always hurts to see them now that everything is different/We don't like to see their eyes 'cause they will never look the same" remindsm e of alot of friends I have grow apart from. It hurts to see them now, because everything is different. We aren't what we were. It's about the little hurts that in the end, add up to rift where you see each other at Christmas and wonder where they are the rest of the year, but never bother to find out.

that's a very good interpretation to this song well done,but what about this line

"They make fools of us together but we always think of them All their laughing and their talking and their wasting of our time"... think on that some

.. that "fools of us together" referring to the shit they did together, laughed and talked crap all day and wasting time as all friends do, but even as little or nonsensical of a memory as that, they are still remembered?

I thought about both of those explanations for a while, but neither really makes sense to me.

Think about the first lines "They're getting ugly; They're a horror show; And now we're laughing; Because they'll never know; That they have everything; We give them all of our own; And they tell us they're sick and they're alone." Why would you describe friends as ugly? And then why would you laugh at them and say that they have everything? That would make you sound like a pretty jealous person if you were just gawking at your friends' successes and saying that they're only there because you "gave them everything".

Same with the misfit kid thing. "And it always hurts to see them now that everything is different; We don't like to see their eyes 'cause they will never look the same." Why would it hurt to see them now that "everything is different"? I mean, if they changed and aren't mean to misfit kids anymore, then why would it hurt to see them?

I think of this song as like a story. First, I visualize a big business, with lots of executives but like 5000 times more "little people" who actually make the business survive.

The big corporate executives get more and more full of themselves and keep worrying about little issues like making an appointment when the workers of their business are dying in poverty.

The executives always screw with the workers and make them look like idiots and morons, but the workers look up at the executives and ironically pity them.

Then one day, the business crashes and all the executives are left with nothing, they're even worse off than the workers. The workers, in the spirit of comraderie, offer the once-great executives menial jobs to at least help them stay alive. But the executives are so used to this luxurious life and still look down at the workers so much, that they'd rather die than work for them. So they do.

I think that this song is about growing apart between friends, but the song always says "they" and "we" which means that both parties in the song aren't alone. Maybe ignorance, or narrowmindedness led to an argument, who can say? This song leaves a bit up to the immagination.

why not think it this way~ the ppl ard u thinking they are the normal ones~ laughing at us~ havin fun steppin on us~ but hell yeah, we give them all the things in life they wan,we swallow the pain~we give them all that,that of wat they're happy abt, bullying us~ thinking that gotten all that on their own, then we laugh~ when they think they had it hard. a hard life, a small pain~they start to whine of feeling lonely,alone, emotional of their life over a small screwup that they cannot handle.

we pity them,we use to love them they use to be our frens...eyes hurt to see such a sight..wasting all our time of being with them being there for them where where are they now? eyes they have now are not like the eyes i look into when we used to be frens in the past...their eyes are so diff now...

I agree that it is an abstractly written song about growing up. I think it might have to do with no longer befriending a friend who was classified in the category of always being 'Woe is me'-like. They make a big deal and complain and try to get attention, perhaps. And, in the case in which I relate to this song, they're also fake. So it's a very good song for moral support about losing a friend that you don't need.
