I agree that it is an abstractly written song about growing up. I think it might have to do with no longer befriending a friend who was classified in the category of always being 'Woe is me'-like. They make a big deal and complain and try to get attention, perhaps. And, in the case in which I relate to this song, they're also fake. So it's a very good song for moral support about losing a friend that you don't need.
