A head that aches doesn't have to stay that way, just let what's dead go. I know there's pain in leaving things all too well. In time, you'll find needing things only kills you slowly. If you're not sure who you are, you're not alone. If you're not sure what you want, you're not alone. If you're not sure of life of love (?), you're not alone. Tell your friends, hey come on over and talk. You bring the drinks, I'll bring the bad mood. Everyone feels like you. Tell your dad to come on over and we'll talk, you bring your drinks, I'll bring the fuck you's. Long awaited, long overdue. Tell your ex-girlfriend you need her to be there at bedtime. Cause you can't sleep your minds on all these things. Bring out what's dead and dying (something) while you still can.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

A head that aches doesn’t have to stay that way. Just let what’s dead go. I know there's pain in leaving things all too well. In time, you’ll find needing things only kills you slowly. If you’re not sure who you are you’re not alone. If you’re not sure what you want you’re not alone. A heart that craves doesn’t have to stay that way. Just let what’s dead go. In time, you’ll find needing things only kills you slowly. If you’re not sure who you are you’re not alone. If you’re not sure what you want you’re not alone. If you’re not sure of a life of love you’re not alone. Tell your friends hey come on over and we'll talk. You bring the drinks I’ll bring the bad news; everyone feels like you. Tell your dad to come on over and we'll talk. You bring your drinks I'll bring the fuck you’s; long awaited, long overdue. Tell your ex-girlfriend you need her to be there at bedtime. Cause you can't sleep if your minds on all these things. Bring out what's dead and dying from a rotting body while you still can.
i think this song is simply about how not everyone knows where they are going in life and that even in the most loneliest of situations, it's guaranteed someone out there is feeling just like you. it's good to let it out, because you need to 'just let what’s dead go'. talk to your friends 'if you’re not sure what you want' or 'if you’re not sure of life of love' because you aren't alone; 'everyone feels like you'. in order to live life to the fullest, you have to 'bring out what’s dead and dying while you still can.'
i agree with what everyone has said before. very moving song. awesome work by a kinsella, once again.
i love this song. no more needs to be said.
amazing song.
Mike Kinsella is amazing. His work as Owen is always nothing short of incredible.
What I love about this song is that it isn't directed to anyone specific, it's directed to EVERYONE. Whether you are the kid who gets picked on at school, a party girl, a telemarketer, or even a soccer mom, you always feel lonely from time to time. but you're not alone. how can I put it into better words than the song itself? its impossible
What an incredible song. Powerful words.
Bring out what?s dead and dying (rotting) while you still can.
i thought it was "You bring the drinks, I’ll bring the bad news."
tis it is...
