Don't look at me

Every day is so wonderful
Then suddenly
It's hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain
I'm so ashamed

I am beautiful
No matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful
In every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends, you're delirious
So consumed
In all your doom, mm
Trying hard to fill the emptiness
The pieces gone
Left the puzzle undone
Ain't that the way it is?

You are beautiful
No matter what they say
Words can't bring you down, oh no
You are beautiful
In every single way
Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

No matter what we do (no matter what we do)
No matter what we say (no matter what we say)
We're the song inside the tune (yeah, yeah, oh, yeah)
Full of beautiful mistakes

And everywhere we go (and everywhere we go)
The sun will always shine (the sun will always, always)
And tomorrow we might wake
On the other side (shine)

'Cause we are beautiful
No matter what they say
Yes, words won't bring us down, oh no
We are beautiful
In every single way
Yes, words can't bring us down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

Oh, oh, yeah
Don't you bring me down today, yeah, ooh
Don't you bring me down, ooh
Today

This is such an inspirational song. I loved it the first time i heard it, and i do believe it was the second single she released from her album, 'Stripped'. I love the way it's so encouraging, and supportive. The song says that it doesn't matter what you look like, what your sexuality is, or the way you live your life. There is a place in the world for everyone and everyone's beautiful in their own special way. I think this is a very positive message to be honest and i think Christina Aguilera handled it well. She has such a powerful voice and she conveys a strong message. I admire her.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
