Birth Skin/Death Leather Lyrics

mr. electric disappears and re-appears like a smiling/snarling phantom.
dawn: wooing the blue from the crawling eyes of babies
midday: vanished. grinning through the sweat pores of harlots and whores.
sundown: opening a cloak of tentacles...preaching the gospel of cracked crystal beaks.
dusk: peeling back the birth skin like wrapping paper around a virgin. vanish again.
twilight: march on electric children!
and you, with your self righteous army of crotches spewing paper children, his death hole is deeper.
and stronger than love.

Damn this song is fuckin incredible.. Everytime you think you're gonna make sense of the lyrics, something completely random pops up.. I've begun to think this song has no meaning at all. Just a story about Mr.Electric, a guy who appears in several other TBB songs.. Mr.Electric is probably the father of the electric children.. This leads me to think Mr.Electric is just some kind of metaphorical creature representing modern society, though this dosent' fit well witht he song itself.

The song goes through the times of the day [dawn, midday, sundown, etc.]..and they could just stand for moments in life;

Dawn: the beginning. "Wooing the blue from the crawling eyes of babies." Everything is fresh and new when you're born. [Babies eyes are usually always blue], and we "woo" at them because they are pure and innocent and beautiful.

Midday: Middle Age[or teen years]. "Vanished. grinning through the sweat pores of harlots and whores." We obsess with sex and grow out of innocence and sweetness["vanished"].

Sundown: towards the end. "Opening a cloak of tentacles...preaching the gospel of cracked crystal beaks." Older people seem to be more religious. Possibly trying to make up for being feinds before.

Dusk: The End of Life. "Peeling back the birth skin like wrapping paper around a virgin. vanish again." I'm not really sure about this one. Maybe referring to being forgiven and then...dying[vanishing again].

Twilight: the birth of another human/s. "march on electric children!"

And Mr. Electric could just be God himself--or "Death"-- claiming the dead. "Mr. electric disappears and re-appears like a smiling/snarling phantom." As in, death comes and goes in people's lives, so he, "Death," dissapears and re-appears as the generations move on and on, as more people die.

"and you, with your self righteous army of crotches spewing paper children, his death hole is deeper. and stronger than love. " Like, we keep producing more children, who will eventually die. And he will keep coming for them. "His death hole is deeper, and stronger than love."--Death is stronger than the emotion Love, because Love cannot keep them from him; he will take whoever he pleases regaurdless of a mother's love.

Just my opinion.

In addition, I'd like to add that the title "Birth skin/ death leather" kindof signals the process of life also, because when you die your skin is leahtery and less soft...less pure and new because of you age, everything you've done in your life and been through.

Pretty sure Jordan's screaming "Mr. Electric Ocean", not just "Mr. Electric" at the beginning. This song is amazing and I like how it's referenced in some of their other songs "I know where the canaries and the crows go".

best part: vanish again, vanish again, vanish again, vanish again. MARCH ON ELECTRIC CHILDREN.

I'm just now looking at this for the first time, but I think this song is about prostitution. Mr. Electric is a pimp. No, seriously.

"dawn: wooing the blue from the crawling eyes of babies midday: vanished. grinning through the sweat pores of harlots and whores."

He takes innocent, young girls, and corrupts them. He's "grinning through sweat pores" because he's responsible.

"sundown: opening a cloak of tentacles...preaching the gospel of cracked crystal beaks."

Not exactly sure here to be honest, but I think the cloak of tentacles is just a stand in...

i can't believe no one has commented on this.

this song is fantastic live.

it sounds to me like it's making vague references to Leatherface, and the Texas Chainsaw massacre.

"grinning through the sweat pores of harlots and whores" "peeling back the birth skin like wrapping paper around a virgin"

Leatherface cut off the faces of his prey, and many of them were young girls.

just an idea.
