Escape Artists Never Die Lyrics

The red poison of your lips
The red poison of your eyes
Is where I kissed the blood from,
Just that corner of your mouth where I can see the white of your smile.
Up to my neck
When I'm breathing without you, without you
Up to my eyes
And I'm seeing without you, without you

We'll start a fire,
And burn some bridges
And make it out of here tonight
We'll start a fire,
And burn some bridges
And make it out of here tonight

We need some leverage
We can't seem to open up
The locks are far too tight
And the chains are far too strong, far too strong.
Up to my eyes
And I'm seeing without you, without you
Up to my heart
When I'm bleeding without you, without you.

We'll start a fire,
And burn some bridges
And make it out of here tonight
We'll start a fire,
And burn some bridges
And make it out of here tonight

Please someone help me
I'm dying here in front of you
Please someone help me
I'm dying here in front of you.
With a hundred thousands lights
Timing as everything will
With a hundred thousand lights
Timing, timing is everything to me
Please someone help me
I'm dying here in front of you
Please someone help me
I'm dying here in front of you.
It's everything
It's everything
Timing is everything. It's everything.

I dont know if anyone's said this yet, but here i go:

I think that 'Please someone help me I'm dying here in front of you' I see this as: He is in a sealed tank of water (the relationship) and he cant get out as he may love the girl too much or just cant let go and its killing him and the audience is composed of the girl and his friends that have seen him in relationships before and just think that its part of the illusion and he's just going to move on

I thought of this as Houdini in the tank and when he fails to escape he looks out to the auidence just wanting someone to notice whats happening but nobody realises or helps because they just think its part of the trick.

Pretty Sad When I Thought Of It lol But Nevertheless, An Awesome Song!

no comments for this song? this song always gets stuck in my head. Im not totally sure what its about explicitly, but guessing its about a girl who isnt good for him and yet he cant stop thinking about her... but there is more to this song than that, but im not quite that deep

This is one of my favourite ever songs, I heard it last summer and I still love it. Like has already been said I think it's about a relationship ending, and he's starting to get on in life without her. However, the "We'll start a fire, And burn some bridges And make it out of here tonight"

This gives me the impression that he's asking this person to give the relationship one last chance. Starting a fire, burning some bridges, and making a fresh start

Yeah, it's all been pretty much summed up by everyone here...i'd just like to say: Best song FFAF have ever written. It's just so epic, and I love the dancers in the video

Hello, my name is Sam. I am an escape artist. I can tell you why escape artists never die. We escape from everything that is living life. We can walk away from anything because we're already dead.

Agreeing with punkrockrincess, this song is saying that Matt isn't an escape artist, but sometimes wishes he was.

I agree with most peoples ideas here. I think the whole song is based on an extended metaphor of an escape artist being chained up and thrown into a lake (or some other expanse of water.. ..), the lake is a relationship that has ended and the chorus is him slowly drowning without her

'Up to my neck When I'm breathing without you, without you Up to my eyes And I'm seeing without you, without you'

and. .

'Up to my eyes And I'm seeing without you, without you Up to my heart When I'm bleeding without you, without you.'

When it says

'Please someone help me, i'm dying here in front of you'

Trying to cut his ties to this girl is killing him and he can't do it. It's almost like he's either still trapped in the water or has been dragged out (mayb by her giving him hope?) but it's too late and he's lying in front of her dying.

I also think the girl, is the escape artist and it was easy enough for her to walk out with minimal harm, mayb matt is trying to say its kinda often the case that when people end relationships they dont understand the pain the other person has to go through, especially since their fine.

I'm not sure about the timing bit, maybe it just follows on from it being to late for him?

Im also not sure about the first verse, it kinda reminds me of vampires, with red i.e. evil eyes and blood dripping from the corner of her mouth dunno tho!

I used to think it was about a recently ended or failing relationship and wanting to get back together no matter how much others say you shouldn't. Now, a decade later and looking more closely at the lyrics after not listening to it for awhile, I think it is about being in love with someone while either you or her are in a relationship already and wanting to run off together. Maybe you already shared a kiss ("red poison of your lips") but don't want to talk about it/your feelings any further ("can't seem to open up"). You just want to burn bridges (with your/her significant other, or maybe she is a friend's significant other so you'd burn that bridge) and run off together. And seeing her with her SO, or seeing her while with yours makes you feel like you are drowning/dying in front of her. However, doing anything would be in the open for others to see and judge ("with a hundred thousand lights") so you need some tact in discussing your feelings or making any moves ("timing is everything").

My favorite song by them and always preferred the Seven Ways version.

i think the key to this song is the "escape artist" illusions. the last bit about the lights and the timing, and dying in front of her. I can't really figure it all out, but he's definatly drawing a parallel between an escape artist and this complicated relationship. and i think that's so cool

"please someone help me i'm dying here in front of you with a hundred thousand lights timing is everything"

...wonderful

To me it seems like after a relationship is over, ie the "Up to my eyes And I'm seeing without you, without you" makes me think about being able to be alone after a long 'ship.

that is what i think as well

I think stebug and punkrockchick217 have pretty much got it, the part about "burn some bridges" is about burning the ties to your ex, and trying to get on with life, I think one important thig about this song is that he is saying that he doesn't think he can get over her and he is dying without her, like 'the magic trick has gone wrong'.
