The Golden Age Of Grotesque

First I have to give you a little introduction to the album: the golden age of grotesque. Manson is always refering to historical points to create paradoxes between them. This album is historically place in the 30' nazi germany. The society the government the religion etc are represented by the nazi party and marilyn manson a bit like a jewish, at the time the jazz music, mikey mouse, jewish artist etc were represented like the "degenerate". And manson is making a paradox between this and the actual society that has just became in a new form another nazi reich: conformism, ethic, religion, stereotypes, the government, the news, and particulary in this case "metal music/jazz music. Like in each of his album the dichtomy of the opposite combination is apply.

In the todays society: Satanism: individualism, sexual liberty, freedom. The actual society: control, stereotypes and disinformation everywhere and other related stuff.

In the comparative nazi germany: The jewish "degenerate-art": jazz, free music inspiration etc... Nazis: Fascist, control over people and their sexual preferences, rascist etc...

A lot of references to the 30' movies, kabarett, society, art.

I love this lyric, because of what it says about society. No one is perfect or selfless but we all want to be like the stars on TV who appear to be great people. But underneath it all they're just like anyone else.

I think this track's clearly about celebrity idolization/worship. "Golden Age of Grotesque" is referencing our shallow, mindless, meaningless fascination with material wealth and image--people today aspire for success in the form of money and appearance, as opposed to engaging in meaningful pursuits. "We're not fantastic motherfuckers but we play them on TV" & "Here's a trick that's gonna make you flip" are telling lines.

this is the title track for the new album, and personally, my second favorite song, even though it's slow. the lyrics are awesome.

yeah, this song is so cool! im not actually sure what manson's getting at in this song, but im sure that whatever it is, he's got his finger on the button! dont ask why i just said all of that, i dont know myself!

"we're the low art gloominati, and we aim to depress"- Most of everyone aroudn us talk down on us call us suicidal, troubled..whatever. This is saying how we're affected by what others comment on and how there's no excaping it so we have to go on and not give a fuck.

Im pretty sure these lyrics are wrong. I take that back, after reading them again and looking at the lyrics in the slip, the ones here <i>are</i> wrong.

The point of GAG, the Album and the song, is highlighting the similarities between 1930's Nazi Germany and modern day America.

Both in Mansons and my opinions America is a fascist state much like Nazi Germany was. Fear rules. Terrorism is the nightmare, gun crime is the nightmare, Manson is the nightmare. The reality is far more of a nightmare, censorship, no free speech, a facist bastard in charge. Anyways, back to the lyrics...

'Low Art glomminati' = talentless, like most entertainers in the US and the president and politicians. All very interested in repressing 'high art' or any real expression as they dont get it and its a threat to their hallowed institutions!

Great song, brilliant album, genuine talent.

Another great success song by Manson. The truly great person that actually lives his life. Cant belive that theres actually some organisations against this truly high intelligence. But when you think...true artists have always enemies. Wel all want to be stars like the ones on tv? No i dont think so. I hate modern tv and the media. They just roll crap whole day on tv this days. Much better to buy the movies so you dont have to watch all the crap that the media buts on tv. They are totally trying to get people listening to pop and stuff..totally sad. You think pop is popular cause the people love it? Hell no...its all medias fault. All pop stars use millions of dollars to get attention..and it works too. But enough about that. Mansons great. Mans totally about music.
