The Unnamed Feeling

To me its about him being in rehab whether or not he has gone more than once is not the point in the first lines,

I would say

 "Been here before couldn't say I liked it"

is talking about the feelings of guilt and pain that are part the inital part of healing

 "Do I start writing all this down?"

this part is what screams in rehab to me, journal, diary...

 "Just let me plug you into my world
  Can't you help me be uncrazy?"

witness what is going on inside his head and asking those around him for help

not sure, maybe something about how his realtionships surrounding him are vanishing and he feels cold

he just wants to be able to control what is happening inside, whats causing his addiction

every times he drinks he feels himself lose a little more touch with reality

help as you may but inside he struggles for something more

pretending that everything around him is not going to work "I've found safety in this loneliness" found solitude in drink "But I cannot stand it anymore" literally cant take it

hope to make it back, not to overdose "Swallow evil, ride the sky" have a shot, feel alive "Lose myself in a crowded room" everything around him fads away "You fool, you fool, it will be here soon" talking within part of him knows its coming but regrets it

  "Get the fuck out of here"

cant stand the addiction "I just wanna get the fuck away from me" cant stand himself for giving in "I rage, I glaze, I hurt, I hate" anger, numb but causes pain "It hate it all, why? Why? Why me?"

I like how this song doesn't really depict anything other than that feeling you get when something so unbelievable happens you can barely even cope. It's not about one scenario. It's good stuff.

For me this happens whenever I can't escape anything and I can't fight back or anything. Not being able to do anything eats me up and makes me die inside. It's so often nowadays, too. I get this feeling a lot. It's beyond even anger and hate. It's beyond that.

I agree, sysys, this is definitely one that will take time before people, many people might i add, to take a strong liking to it. Many people might agree with me or might call me a retard, but this song describes perfectly that feeling we get, at least i get, when something goes wrong with that girl you like, and when you proceed to go home, sit in your room, just thinking, in a state of denial/regret/animosity/sorrow/whatever other horrible feeling goes through your head. And finally, as with anything dreadful in life, it sticks with you for a few days, this unnamed feeling. Everyone has one, this is just an example of mine.

Great song. This is the only song on the cd that I didn't have to get used to because it sounded more "Metallica" like to me with the pace and then the rhythm at the chorus. But the whole cd grows on you and they isn't actually a bad song on it. better_than_you, I think you're right on it. Everyone has an unnamed feeling for whatever reason it may be. Whether it's anger, hurt, pride, love or whatever. We all have been through situations in which we feel something building inside of us. He recognizes the unnamed feeling building in him and gets fed up with everything and wants the be by himself, work through it and then move on. Anywho...very kick ass song!!

Great song off a kick ass album. I love the part when Jaymz is singing "Get the Fuck out of here, etc." sounds like he's on the edge of sanity when he sings it. This song, like the album, will take some time to grow on people, but it is one of the best off the album

The music video says it all... it's that feeling you get right before you explode, or like when you feel like nothing is in your control...

The unnamed feeling is a feeling everyone has towards one thing or another. it could be love, it could be drugs, or alcohol. what matters is that you hate and despise it, but when you have it you love it more than anything. throughout the song he talks about how his life is broken by this unnamed feeling and how he wants nothing more to ease his pain or get rid of it. he even says how it kills him when it comes alive and it takes a part of him each time it does. but if you listen to the tone of his voice when the feeling comes alive, he LOVES it, but the part of him that despises it is also conscious inside himself exclaiming how the unnamed feeling "treats" him this way. both sides of him fight but the unnamed feeling always wins. I WAS HIGH AF AND LISTENED TO THIS SONG ON REPEAT. this song is one metallica's best songs because of its hidden meaning. you hate it but when you have it YOU LOVE IT.
